We ended up in this fantastic town at the end of a long day of motorcycling. This was the only hotel in town with a cliffside location so decided to stay. We came in to find most of the lights in the corridors out, and were told the elevators were not working and made to carry our bike gear up 3 flights of stairs. I think these were intended to be cost saving methods by the owners as light switches flipped lights on.
Once in the room I dropped onto a bed to find a pillow smelling of someone else's perfume. It also looked as though a slightly used bar of soap had been carefully slipped back into a slightly warped cardboard box. We were stuck but went out for a fantastic dinner in the tiny town. When we came back there was a raucous party, complete with DJ that blared below our window all night.
The next morning after a breakfast of dry toast and orange juice, which they added on to our bill, I requested to make an entry into their tourist record book. All hotels in Croatia are required to keep these and they are regularly inspected by the Croatian tourist board. The management REFUSED to give me the book to make an entry! This invoked a loud argument amongst the family in Croatian and a lot of yelling. We got the hell out.
