“Noisy, stingy, nasty ownership.”

We ended up in this fantastic town at the end of a long day of motorcycling. This was the only hotel in town with a cliffside location so decided to stay. We came in to find most of the lights in the corridors out, and were told the elevators were not working and made to carry our bike gear up 3 flights of stairs. I think these were intended to be cost saving methods by the owners as light switches flipped lights on.
Once in the room I dropped onto a bed to find a pillow smelling of someone else's perfume. It also looked as though a slightly used bar of soap had been carefully slipped back into a slightly warped cardboard box. We were stuck but went out for a fantastic dinner in the tiny town. When we came back there was a raucous party, complete with DJ that blared below our window all night.
The next morning after a breakfast of dry toast and orange juice, which they added on to our bill, I requested to make an entry into their tourist record book. All hotels in Croatia are required to keep these and they are regularly inspected by the Croatian tourist board. The management REFUSED to give me the book to make an entry! This invoked a loud argument amongst the family in Croatian and a lot of yelling. We got the hell out.

“Weekend getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2009

The hotel sits on a cliff overlooking the small, picturesque bay of the tiny village of Jablanac from where the ferries to Rab depart. The scenery itself: a small, quiet fishing village against the backdrop of huge mountains, might make people stay here instead of going to the overcrowded island of Rab.

The first time we stayed at the hotel was in 2002 and we have returned there almost every year since then. The most important reason is that this part of the Adriatic coast is the fastest to reach from Budapest for a weekend getaway at the sea. But we have come to enjoy the rocky beach, the transparent, crystal clear greenish blue water, the slow but polite service, the excellent seafood (linje na zaru s blitvom), the sunsets over the island of Rab, and the nearby Zavratnica canyon.

Even the inevitable noise of the occasional ferries going in and out of the harbor add to the special atmosphere of this hidden gem.

“It's the only hotel in town, but.....”

This hotel is perched on the hill overlooking the charming little seaside village of Jablanac. You drive into the village on a one way road and make your way past the ferry point through the town and up the hill the other side where you park your car behind the hotel. After buzzing someone from reception comes down and lets you in the back door. This is a large hotel with long 'red' carpeted corridors - a wee bit spooky like something out of an Alfred Hitchock movie. We appeared to be two of four guests. How do I know this? The next morning at breakfast there was 4 of everything available. There was noone to be seen at the hotel only staff so we quickly made our way down to the village where we sat at a small cafe/restaurant and watched the ferries go in and out while we supped on a local white wine. We enjoyed the peacefulness so much we stayed on and had dinner there as well. Back at the hotel, everything remained very very quiet. The room was OK, but overnight a gale blew up and the hotel creaked and the wind howled all night. Breakfast was a laugh and not entirely palatable. Soft boiled eggs which had obviously been cooked about an hour earlier and left cold runny yolk all over the plate. Consequently we opted for fresh bread and jam. The only teas were fruit ones or green tea - no English breakfast available here. However the charming little village of Jablanac made up for all of this.
