We came to this hotel by chance – we had been looking for accommodation in Luxembourg City but could not find a hotel with off-street car parking (Yes – maybe we should have booked ahead, but there are great pleasures in touring without a fixed schedule!).We were satisfied as regards quality, price and convenience for visiting Luxembourg City. The AC Hotel is located directly on the E-25 Motorway, at a service area, just over the border from Luxembourg and about 24 kms from Luxembourg City and is therefore a very convenient location for exploring the latter. The hotel is octagonal in shape, so that the rooms and bathrooms are small and essentially wedge-shaped, but this does not detract from the comfort. As the hotel is located on the northern side of the motorway access is direct if you are coming from Luxembourg, but managing baggage and suitcases would be more problematic if one were to try parking on the other side. A bridge, which contains the service-area restaurants, spans the motorway. A potential drawback from lone travellers, especially women, is as regards security – the reception desk of the hotel is in the shop of the motorway service area and therefore open to anybody who stops off, however briefly. There appeared to be no way in which access to the rooms can be restricted for anybody who comes in to the shop, restaurant or even rest-rooms. We were rather taken aback to see a display case at the reception in which a wide range of vicious-looking clasp knives were for sale – one wonders why any hotel considers such articles suitable for sale to customers! There was no problem accommodating our dog and adequate area beyond the truck and bus-parking area outside to exercise her. There are two restaurants, one “sit-down” style and the other a cafeteria. The range of food was limited but the quality was good. The level of service varied – one waitress could not have been more friendly or helpful when we had dinner, but when we returned for breakfast we all but had our noses bitten off by the lady then in charge – we got the distinct impression that she regarded customers as a nuisance - and this put us off eating there again. All in all this hotel represents reasonable value and a good alternative to staying in Luxembourg for anybody wanting to explore the city.
