“Lives up to the excellent reviews”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed here the nights of 11 and 12 January. Yep, I get why this place is ranked #1 in the region. As others have said, it felt like we were staying at a friend's house. We stayed in the lower room which was nicely outfitted and had some extra touches that I wasn't necessarily expecting, like a mini-fridge and a coffee maker with mugs. We had a great time sitting on the patio, enjoying the beautiful view and feeding bananas to the coatis. Rolf is an outstanding host -- fun to chat with, but also gives you your space. He is extremely knowledgeable about the area (and Costa Rica in general) and gave us some great recommendations on places to go and things to do. When we checked in, he gave us a bunch of coupons for restaurants and other stuff in the area. Nothing extravagant, a free beer here, 10% off there, but it's a really nice touch. He also lets you use the computer (with internet) in his office for free. We had very easy access to Santa Elena and Monteverde, though it certainly helped that we had a car.

Room Tip: There are only three to choose from -- upper room, lower room, and cabin. We really liked the lower...

“Great Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

My partner and I had a great experience at Rainbow Valley Lodge! The room is clean, and has a great view of the forest. Coati came right to our door and we fed them bananas. Rolf (the owner) was extremely helpful and even got us some discounts on local restaurants and attractions. Really enjoyed our stay here.

Room Tip: We had the upper room which offered a great view.

“Lovely Lodge and Host”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

The lodge offers a terrific location overlooking a valley filled with rainbows (literally) and monkeys. Rolf was an amazing host, helping arrange park and canopy tours for us even before we arrived. A truly unexpected amount of hospitality for the price! Next time we visit though I'd probably choose to stay in one of the rooms with an extra bed, since my fiance and I had a tough time sharing the one bed in the upper room. This may just be because we are used to a king size bed at home.

“Monkeys, Monkeys, and more Monkeys”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We stay here in November. What a great lodge. Waking up to monkeys looking at you as if you are in the zoo not them was just wonderful. Rolf couldn't have been more helpful. Expecially when our car had some mechanical difficultys. Rolf was kind enough to stay around waiting for the mechanic while we went on to explore the area. I would deffinatly stay at Rainbow Lodge again.

Room Tip: I dont think there is a bad room. Top room you see the tops of the canopy with monkeys and birds. Bo...

“Perfect place to stay in Monteverde”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We stayed at Rainbow Valley Lodge for three nights during our Monteverde leg of our CR vacation... it was the place I felt most at home during our trip (I'm a mountain man, my wife is more of a beach girl). Rolf was an amazing host, he's the kind of guy that makes you feel like you've known him your whole life. He gave us lots of info and arranged guides and tours when requested.

The kids loved the place, with the pizotes and capuchin monkeys visiting right on our front patio!

The cabin had everything we needed to cook our meals on site, and close enough to St. Elena that we could drive into town to shop or eat if we chose.

If you want a nice, quiet place close to town, this is a perfect choice!
