“Friendly, convenient but damp Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2011

I stayed two nights in this hotel and I am almost reluctant to give it a bad review as the staff were so kind and helpful to me. It is brilliantly located just off the main street and is beautifully set at the edge of the forest. However the problem is tha tthe rooms were very damp, the bedsheets too and any clothes you leave out in the room end up too damp to wear. To be fair, the owners could not have been better when I told them, fresh blankets, extra blankets and genuine apologies.
Still this means that it is difficult to be comfortable. It is a pity because the setting as I said is pretty nice, it is so peaceful and as one reviewer said you get to see the monkeys from your window as they come in from the forest. its a great base to do activities like ziplining and forest walks but the dampness makes it hard to recommend.
Maybe in other times of the year it would not be as much a problem as truly, it is the only reason I would have to criticise it.

Room Tip: Ask to see it first to make sure it is not damp!

“Disgusting, dirty shack”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2011

Truly the worst place I've ever stayed. I've stayed in $10 hostels that were cleaner and better maintained than this one. Dirty rooms, dirty sheets, dirty bathrooms, broken furniture and awful service. You can tell that the ownership and management of this establishment do not care about the comfort or safety of their guests

“Rustic, Cheap, Close to Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2011

Quetzal Inn is tucked away but very close to town. It is family owned and run and very simple. There are computers with high speed internet in the small lobby and they made a great breakfast for us. And there were monkeys just outside!
There are not TVs, no central heating/AC, no alarm clocks, finicky hot water and the bed were a bit creaky. Perfect for people wanting to escape the trappings of modern society and for the adventurous. If you're picky about comfort, spend twice as much and stay somewhere else. The staff was very helpful and the room was clean. Thanks Quetzal Inn!

“Amazing experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

Having a reception of white faced monkeys and watching raccoons in the the surrounding forest, was the Quetzal inn the perfect place to stay.

The rooms were large and clean, and the beds were comfortable. Standing on my veranda I was literally in the forest!

The breakfast was delicious and the hotel was a 5 minute walk from town so restaurants and amenities were so easily accessible.

My only issue was I didnt sleep too well on the first night... this was because of the noisy howler monkeys not the hotel!

I stayed on Quetzal Inn and I has a new administration. Everything is Ok, the breakfast is including and it was good, the typical in Costa Rica. The women in the front desk speaks English well and we received a good treatment.
