The Hotel was more than what I expected, the rooms are bit small, but it comes with LCD Tv, Mini bar ,A/C …etc, the Toilets are well maintained and cleaned (so was the room). The service given to us by the two lovely front office ladies was admirable, so was the hotel manager Mr.Lenora, who is a nice Gentleman with a smile on his face all the time.

They have a lovely back yard area where you can have candle light dinner overlooking the sea at night, the restaurant also has an off the shelf seafood selection where you can select you own seafood
Since they don’t have their own pool ,the pool at thambapani retreat (Sister hotel)can be used if you’re interested

The only negative experience that I had was with the hotel security personal who was really unprofessional (shouting) in talking to “PAYING CUSTOMERS” when I asked a simple question as to where to park my friends vehicle ,(he kept on arguing and shouting), the management should really look in to this before hiring these kind of unprofessional personal to the hotel since it’s the hotels reputation that is in jeopardy (this happened the moment that I walked in to the hotel)

Other than that we enjoyed our stay at Thaproban Beach House

Booked the week (first week out of 4 in Sri Lanka) from Sweden before leaving. Arrived at the airport and where pick-up'ed by Presana, an employed driver. Arriving from two weeks in India I was surprised of the clean and well maintained airport. Presana spoke really good English and we had a pleasant two hour drive down to Unawatuna. The hotel is, together with their sister hotel Thambanpanni, probably two out of five-six best hotels in Unawatuna. Nice clean rooms (cleaned every day), superb breakfast menu (included in my rate), great restaurant menu at nighttime with good choice of seafood. The staff (everyone) always had a nice smile and positive attitude, they greated you by your name all the time (which seemed to be an honest gesture). The hotel is situated between a small narrow but very loud street and the ocean! You might say that you are stuck between two loud options, the street or the waves from the ocean. You might think that the sound from the ocean is a bit romantic but I might say that they are loud! Try to ask for a room that are not one of those options (if possible).

After the first week I swopped for another hotel and decreased my cost per night from us 55 to us 20, only 25 meters from Thaproban. Rooms almost the same but no breakfast (you can still eat that at Thaproban at the cost of 800 rupiees).

Pros; clean, familiarity, restaurant, "location", use of sisterhotels pool.
Cons; expensive, "loud location".

Visited this hotel after a while (stayed there few years ago and it was great) for lunch and they didn't disappoint all of us ! The sea food was excellent.. should try both the Jumbo prawn's and the Coconut crusted prawn's. The pizza too were very good.

The setting, ambiance, friendly staff, the beach ... was super. Will go back.

Dirty -The sheets was dirty when we got our room, very disgusting. When we asked for new we where told that the day of changing sheets was the next day!!??

Glasses in the restaurant where often dirty.

Only drinking water provided in room the first day, all other 5 hotels that we spend had this every day.

Noisy - Openings in walls that allow noise into room, loud music until 4am.

Food very poor, much better at other restaurants.

Management, especially woman in reception, did not bothered when consulted. Not service minded at all. At other hotels personal was happy and nice but not here.

Cleaning personal was very nice though.
