We found the Carrick really marvellous. Rob was very hospitable and even lent us a DVD about the history of the flooding of the original town for a dam - very interesting and informative. Our room was self contained, large, comfortable and beautifully furnished - a cut above the usual motel (several cuts actually). We also had an outdoor area with lovely views to snow-capped mountains. The area is very scenic (as is the whole of the SI !) with lots of wine growing and with such lovely accommodation, we were really disappointed that we could only stay one night. Highly recommended.

We were offered excellent off season rates by the friendly staff in reception who gave us an excellent recommendation for a lunch venue (Mt Difficulty Winery). The rooms were very clean and roomy.

We were really happy when we arrived at this hotel with both it's location and the hotel itself. It was meant to be a one night stopover on our way to the Milford but if we had had the time we could have stayed a couple of days. Cromwell is a beautiful spot surrounded by water, wineries, restaurants and history. Our hosts were warm and the little touches they offered such as makeup remover clothes, fresh towels after we went out for dinner, choice of milk for coffee togetherwith plunger coffee were nice. We also had a great meal up at the Golden Gate pub with a selection of local wines. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

We stayed one night while exploring the wineries of the area. We stayed in a large studio and it proved to be a modern, sunny, chic room where we stayed in for the night and just took it easy. We cooked our own dinner as there was a grocery store about two short blocks away, and the kitchen was nicely stocked. Our room had a view of the mountains and while it was right off a main road, I slept soundly and did not hear any traffic. We had a delicious authentic Thai lunch at Thai Crom in the little mall across from the Lodge. Also, there is an I-site to provide recommendations for sightseeing in the area and beyond. There are quite a few places to do some hiking and the Old section of Cromwell. If you enjoy wine, be sure to visit Mt. Difficulty, Quartz Reef, Wooing Tree, and Carrick (no affiliation, I believe). There are plenty more, but those were our absolutely our favorites. Be sure to visit Wanaka which is just a 40 minute scenic drive away! Cromwell is a quiet town and was great for relaxing from our hectic itinerary.
