“Scenic and peaceful -”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2010

This area was one of the most scenic and least crowded places we visited. We loved it. However, there are few tourist facilities. Take your food and other necessities with you. The unit was not luxurious, but it was very clean and well furnished.

Let Jan cook for you as much as she will! She’s a better cook than you are. We ate at some of NZ’s nicest restaurants, and the best meal we had was the one she served.

“magic location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2010

this motel was our first stop on a trip around the east cape, the setting is amazing, right near the beach and very tranquil; nice clean accomodation and a warm welcome by the owner.

“Great place,Great food,Great fishing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2008

It all started off with a hard month of work. And my wife and I needed a get away.
We heard of Waihaubay being one of the best fishing spots in the country for all fishing types.

So we did a search on Waihaubay and Oceanside apartments came up. So we rang and placed a booking.
We arrived at Oceanside apartments early after noon and where greeted with a beer and a wine for the other half. We where shown into our unit and Jan the host had made some hot sour dough bread with dips which she pollitley gave to us yyyyyyyyuuuuuuumm!!!!!.
Barry, Jan's husband came down shortley after and offered to take us on our first fishing trip which we booked before hand on their own charter boat.

So we where off and at the ramp within minutes. Barry the skipper told us he was taking us to a secret spot and within 15 mintues we where there.
It felt like minutes but after a couple of ours we had a bin full of snapper and were on our way back.

As we got back to Oceanside, Jan the host greeted us with a restaurant like dinner. Crayfish, fish, hot buns, salad the list goes on, but what a great start to a trip away.

The next morning after a good sleep in we went Kayaking which we hired from Oceanside. And the rest of the weekend consisted of diving, landbased fishing, relaxing and lots of great food which was provided from our great host Jan.

I think one of the fine points of our trip was sitting on their deck at dusk watching the sunset with awesome sea views.
We thought the accommodation was clean and tidy and felt like it was a home away from home.

If you work in a concete jungle like I do and need a real get away this is the place to be. No cellphone coverage and no towns for miles its great!!!!.

“The best hideaway on the east cape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2008

Recently had the pleasure of staying at Oceanside Apartments.
I stayed in a two bedroom unit and the view outside to the beach across the road was just so relaxing I could have stayed there for quite some time.
The owners greeted me with genuine pleasure and their friendly dog completed the welcoming party.
My unit was light, fresh, clean, very comfortable and had all the mod cons laid on, including a great choice of DVD's to watch.
The seafood dinner prepared with fish freshly caught that day was out of this world - make sure you pre-book for this treat as they often take the charter boat out to catch the evening meal for their guests.
There are kayaks to hire, a horse trekking place handy, a gift shop and although it seems like the middle of no-where (what bliss), there is even a small cafe with great coffee. The scenery is stunning and the drive quite pleasant - you want to stop everywhere to take even more photo's.
Oceanside Apartments, Jan, Barry and Skipper the dog get my total vote of confidence and recommendation.

  • Liked — The welcome and the comfortable well presented unit
  • Disliked — That I had to leave it before eating my way through the owners recipe book.

“Comfort and hospitality plus”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2008

Oceanside Apartments was the first stop-over on our trip round the East Coast and what a fantastic choice. Very comfortable, spacious, and exceptionaly clean and the hospitality was wonderful. Jan cooked a beautiful seafood meal so all in all, a great stop which we would highly recommend. Both she and Barry made us feel extremely welcome.

  • Liked — Great amenities and spotlessly clean
  • Disliked — There was nothing to not like about it.
