I have just spent 5 great days at Oceanside Apartments, in beautiful tranquil Waihau Bay.
The experience was great and I highly recommend the location and hosts Barry and Jan.
I was fortunate to charter Barry and his Boat for two days and caught an abundance of fish - groper, snapper, teraki, Kingfish & Cod, (80 large fish over the two days) and had the pleasure of Jan turning them into mouth watering dinners.
Waihau Bay is on New Zealand's East Cape and it is unspoilt by commercialism, the weather was hot and sea flat or with a light swell, making fishing truly enjoyable for me a true landlubber.
The Oceanside Apartments are clean, modern and comfortable, plus you can have dinner and breakfast cooked for you by Jan.
This cooking is of incredibly high standards rivaling a top class restaurant and the seafood you eat has been caught either that day or the previous one, and if you are lucky it is your own catch!
Book early because it is hard to get a space as it seems there is a constant flow of people coming back for second or thirtd stays.
Make sure you choose the meal option, as you will regret it if you don't and see what the other guests are eating.
The environment is green grass, palm trees, and a beautiful golden sand beach right across the road, it looks like you have stepped on to a movie set, and you won't have to fight the crowd as it appears maybe only 40 or so people can stay in the bay at any one time.
This is an affordable destination of the highest standards where you will feel at home, you'll eat well and relax to 5 star standards of the best resorts - a really special destination for a family or couple wanting to get away from it all with 5 star standards.
