After a week on Basse-Terre, our family (two adults, two kids ages 8 and 10) spent four nights on Les Saintes at L'Auberge les Petites Saints aux Anacardies. While we loved all of our time on Guadeloupe, our stay at Les Saintes was the high point of our trip. The town of Bourg was big enough to be interesting but small enough to be charming, friendly and easy to walk around. The island's palm-edged beaches of white sand were incredible, and included Plage du Figuier, which was only about a ten minute walk from the hotel. We rented scooters for a day, which the kids, especially, thought were great fun, and which let us see parts of the island that were hard to walk to. On another day, we walked up Le Chameau, the high point of the island, which had incredible views. We also visited Fort Napoleon, which was quite interesting historically.
L'Auberge les Petits Saints aux Anacardies was the perfect place to stay. We were in the main house in an upstairs room that had three separate sleeping areas and was bigger than we'd expected, though the bathroom was very small. The hotel has a lot of character but it was also very comfortable with a big porch/restaurant with an amazing view over the town of Bourg and the bay of Terre-de-Haut. It also has a clean and wonderful pool. Les Saintes is quite hot; in our experience, it was significantly warmer than Basse Terre, so the pool was great to come back to after being out around the island. Breakfasts, which come with the room, were good and the two dinners we had at the hotel's restaurant were truly memorable with exquisite French food.
While we were on the island, we checked out some of the other hotels which also looked nice, but I don't think we'd stay anywhere but back at L'Auberge les Petits Saints; in fact, I'd put it up there as one of our favorite hotels of all time.
