I have Just stayed for one night at The Olde Swan in Chertsey whilst working away on a emergency breakdown so is was a case of walking round to find bed for the night. I first visited
Hamilton's (next door) with whom I have stayed before and it was fine,but they were full so the Lady on the desk said she could ring round to find me a room which was very kind of her.
Unfortunately she book me into the Olde Swan.The first room I was given was dreadful the bed had no pillows and the toilet was filthy,the girl showing me the room was leaving for the night and said she would tell the manager about the pillows. The Manager duly arrived and told me I was in the wrong room and moved me to a much better room.This was a smaller room but the toilet was clean,but No toilet paper, so ventured down into the bar to find the manager again to tell him about the missing loo roll,and the reply was I will bring you one up later (I am still Waiting).On the plus side the food in the bar was very good but on the minus the language from the customers was a disgrace.

My experience at 'The Olde Swan' was terrible.
I was greeted by a loud and agressive irish man who intimidated me very much so.

We ere shown to the rooms and they were absolutely filthy.
I couldn't stay here with my wife.

That night we went for a bite to eat in the pub downstairs.

The food was slow and of poor quality.
All i could seem to hear is the owner being overly loud and getting drunk with friends instead of tending to his customers needs.

The next morning we checked out as we could not stand it any longer.

We were supposed to be there for 5 nights but popped over the road to The Crown hotel wher ethe food was delicious and bedrooms were spotless for the same price!!

You would have to be an absolute fool to stay here when such a lovely and welcoming hotel is across the road.

I was never refunded my money by the owner and there is still an ongoing battle to get it back.

Not a nice place and not a nice owner.

This is essentially a traditional style pub with a few rooms above it.
We stayed overnight before a friend's wedding and took advantage of the cheaper rate at weekends. There is parking which is great but a little hard to find since it is around the back and through a very narrow section of road. We then had to take luggage through the pub to get to the stairs up to the rooms. Our room was at the front of the building. I was initially a little worried whether there would be noise from the pub or road outside, but it was surprisingly quiet and we slept well. There had been effort made to decorate the room in a fairly contemporary way, but you can see there are limitations as it is an old building. There was a full length mirror and when asked the staff brought up an iron and ironing board straight away, which was great for getting ready for the wedding. The shower over the bath took a bit of trial and error to get hot water, but then was fine. Breakfast was freshly cooked when we came downstairs - a full fry-up with quality bacon, sausage, eggs, baked beans and plenty of toast, orange juice and good coffee. We also had a drink and ate in the pub in the evening and the food and ambiance were very enjoyable. The pub was popular but not overcrowded and we seemed to be the only guests staying.
The staff were relaxed and friendly, with minimum formalities for check-in or payment. They also gave advice on local shops and directions. On this experience, I'd be happy to stay there again or recommend to others.

Having previously been to the Old Swan and found the food to be appalling, a friend recommended trying it again as the restaurant had had a make-over. Has been newly redecorated which was much more appealing but the main difference was the food! Under new management, the kitchen team were dishing up fantastic food... hot, tasty and great value for money. A huge roast dinner was only £8.95 and even my fussy teenager ate everything on the plate! Have been back once since and the service and food was consistantly good - definately recommend the pies!!!
If in the area, a must visit!!
