The Barcarola is situated a few streets from the beach in the pleasant resort of S'Agaro. It's only a minute's walk from the beach, and numerous restaurants along the seafront. There is a very nice pool with an upper area overlooking the pool and sea, which was always very quiet and had lots of free loungers.

The breakfast buffet was large, and gave you the ability to prove your egg cooking skills (or otherwise!) on a strange flat egg frying device. We drove to the hotel from Barcelona airport (90 mins), and there is a large, free car park behind the hotel. The hotel's restaurant is very good, probably the best option in town, albeit slightly overpriced – especially the starters, which were very expensive. The staff were all very friendly, and spoke good English, despite mostly being Dutch (as the vast majority of the guests are Dutch).

The town itself is very quiet; no noisy Brits or nightclubs and popular with the locals. All in all, the Barcarola is an excellent place to relax on the coast, and well located for trips on coast and inland if you have a car.

Dutch delghts at this "gem" of a hotel in the Van de Valk chain in the sleepy resort of S'agaro. Too often hotels fail to live upto expectations but the Barcarola delivers on all counts. A friendly welcome at reception on arrival promised better things to come. The free secure parking was welcome. A request for extra pillows and a wi-fi connection were dealt with promptly. The room on the third floor offered spectacular views from its terrace. Comfortable beds and a well appointed bathroom and seperate shower cubicle. The air-con worked well and the T.V offered a plethora of both international and Spanish chanels. Breakfast by the pool wsa great start to the day with a varied buffet and cooked breakfast option. We were impressed by the small army of Spanish/Dutch staff cleaning and polishing their way round the building and grounds. We had booked a demi-pension holiday on the basis if the food was'nt up to scratch we could always eat out at one of the many local restaurants. However, dinner in the hotel restaurant turned out to be the highlight of every day. The table d'hote menu was varied and to a high standard. I defy anyone to find a better restaurant in the area. The fresh fish of the day - sea bass or bream, steaks and paella -were all options during our stay. Within the Sea of Mediocrity that is the Spanish Hotel Scene - the Barcarola stands out as a beacon of hope. Thank you Barcarola for a wonderful holiday - we hope to return soon.

We have spent 1 night at this hotel back in 2006. We were a "walk-in", the staff at reception was very nice, the service was flawless throughout the stay. Its very close to the beach, has ample parking space, the room we have stayed in was clean, tidy and cozy, the breakfast was excellent, in short - 100% value for money.

We stayed here for three nights, it was the end of the season, the town was very quiet, but the hotel was absolutely lovely, the hotel is divided into two separate buildings, we stayed in the main part where the restaurant and reception are. The other part, just across the road seems to be an addition. The room was huge, as was the bathroom and balcony. It was really homely and just off the beach. The breakfast was a self catering affair where you cook your own bacon & eggs, we enjoyed that. The area is very calm and only about 40 minutes from Gerona airport. We will be back most definitely.
The only thing that could be a bit better was the evening meal, although we only tried that one night, it may just have been down to our expectations.
