We stayed 5 nights in this hotel in August 2008 while visiting a friend in the area, and everything was very good. The Parador de Gredos is a large stone building in the middle of nowhere and you can spend long hours just lying on a long chair in one of the terraces while watching the wild and peaceful Sierra de Gredos landscape. In particular, it is great to be on the terrace very early in the morning to see the sun rise in an absolute silence, except the sound of the bells coming from sheep herds in the distance. The room was quite large and very nice and quiet, though with no view at all and a bit dark due to the small size of the windows (it is no problem during the hot spanish summer as it keeps the inside temperature cool during the day, but I imagine this can be quite depressing during wintertime). The breakfast buffet, like in the whole Paradores chain, is spectacular. The only weak point we found is that the place can get very crowded and busy during the weekend, as locals from the nearby villages often come to hang aroung and have a cup of coffee at the hotel. There doesn't seem to be enough waiters to ensure an appropriate service during that peak time. We tried to have a snack in the main cafeteria on a Saturday evening, and gave up after waiting more than 20 minutes at a table full of durty dishes as no waiter showed up. Otherwise, the hotel staff is kind and efficient, the facilities are very clean and there is a nice atmosphere. This is a good place to stay with small children (you will see many spanish families coming here and the staff is very helpful with kids).
