Without resorting to cliches, it is hard to fault this most comfortable hotel on La Palma. No one pretends that this is a five-star glitzy destination but if you want a quiet place to escape to from the northern winter, this is a very good choice. It is most reasonably priced, with breakfast for two thrown in. Paradors are great choice for the discriminating traveller, with no noisy folk to annoy you by day or keep you awake at night. While the rooms are not 100% soundproofed, they pass muster.
Take plenty of reading matter with you, there is not a great deal to do and the hotel is rather isolated, although if you are hiker, it may be just what you want. There is a local bus that passes by which will take you to the town of Santa Cruz, This has some interesting 18th-century buildings. The Parador should of course organise a courtesy shuttlebus, as this would be more convenient. The swimming pool should be heated, too, as it is far too cold to swim in for part of the year, except for masochists,
The rooms are however very well-appointed, the beds neither too soft or too hard, the pillows just right. A fair-sized room, with a balcony and seaview complete the picture. The bathroom is well up to standard. There is Wi-Fi accessible throughout the hotel even in your room.
The restaurant is very much as you would expect in the Parador, with reliable menus at a reasonable price. They could however have been changed more extensively on a daily basis but the choice was adequate. The local wine is also recommended and is not too expensive.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the chambermaid top-notch. We would stay here again without hesitation but maybe at a later date. The sister Parador in La Gomera is perhaps a little more atmospheric but it's 'horses for courses', as they say!
