“Great Location, great food, excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2011

Just returned from a 4 night stay at the Hotel Capri. We chose this hotel for its central location in Mahon and we weren't wrong. Short walk to bars & shops, longer walk down to the port but no problem, uphill on the way back but a great way to walk off your dinner. Plenty of lovely bars & restaurants along the port and reasonably priced. Shopping in Mahon was good too. Market on Sat morning but this made the city extremely busy - so not such a good day to go shopping. Room was clean and comfortable with a large balcony. Hair dryer not so good - so if you have lots of hair I would take your own! Used the swimming pool which is good - however, you have to check the opening and closing times as they use it for kids swimming lessons. Also, they have a strange rule that you have to wear a swimming cap (3.50 euro from reception), sun terrace above the pool was good. Breakfast was great - lots of variety and eggs/bacon/omlette cooked to order. Had dinner at the hotel one night was was excellent value. The bar was good value too with plenty of nibbles provided by the bar maid. All in all a great trip and would certainly visit again

“Good central Mahon location”

Stayed for 4 days and very happy with hotel. Good central location, close to main square and not too far to walk down to harbour. Coming back up was a bit of a climb though, could always resort to taxis. Room Ok, all the facilities you could want and clean. Has a balcony but as in middle of town, not much of view. Buffet breakfast very extensive and ate in restaurant one night where they do a buffet set price meal for 14.5 euros. Realised why hotel restaurant so popular when we struggled to find restaurants in Mahon. A few done by harbour but not a lot open at this time of year. If you have hire car , be prepared for driving down very narrow streets, extesnice one way system so takes a bit of getting used to. Most parking on meters but we never once paid, found free parking each night.

“Fabulous!”

We booked this hotel last minute with little research but have had no reason to be disappointed. The room was extremely clean, the staff are delightfully helpful and friendly and the breakfast buffet (we stayed B+B) was out of this world. It is right in the middle of Mahon; a five minute walk down to the port and just two minutes walk from the bus station which has buses to all parts of this wonderful island - particularly the nearest nicest beach Punta Prima which is about 15 minutes away. The terrace has a pool and a jacuzzi and a little private sun terrace with two sun loungers - it's fabulous if you're lucky enough to be the only ones up there like we were!! Highly recommended.

“Filthy pool, knee-high whirlpool, hidden fees everywhere!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2009

After reading reviews that said it was fine as a business hotel, I unfortunately booked a short leisure trip there. For those of you who don´t care about the facilities, this review won´t matter much. I however, always look for a nice pool first, when searching hotels, so read on...
1. Hotel looks nice, reserved but polite staff, modern rooms, although spartan/unfinished. Not central, but close.
2. Restaurant good/good value. Lively buffet cook animated the eve.
BUT!!!!.......
3. One single, old elevator. Ended up using the stairs most of the time.
4. Charged to use the in-room safe?? Lugged all our stuff around with us instead.
5. To get pool towels, required to leave a deposit at the front desk(!) I´m happy to sign for it, and they had my cc details on file anyways!
6. Pool was heated and I was thrilled until I got in up to my knees and noticed how filthy it was. Foamy water with bits of what looked like clumps of hair floating around. I quickly got out and went to sit in the miniscule lukewarm whirlpool for the rest of the time.
6. Pool was full of locals that can pay to use the facilities. Everyone knew everyone and hotels guests were second-class citizens.
7. Unbeknownst to me, pool caps are required for everyone without exception. (One of the locals gave me a dirty look and pointed to her pool cap, which is how I found out.) I agree that it would be nice for people with long hair to use them, but l am mostly bald, with 3 mm long hair for what´s left. (My chest hair is longer and there´s more of it!) Also, I´m a frequent traveller with about 150K miles of travelling a year, and over 100 nights in a hotel a year (as a consultant for a big hotel group no less) and was never asked to put on a pool cap at a hotel before.
8. The local lady finished her laps and then went to complain about us. The staff came up and told us caps were mandatory. Happy to comply, I asked for two caps, assuming they would be free of charge, single-use caps. She happily said "sure" and asked for my room number. (Turns out she had wanted to charge EUR 3.50 each, without even telling me!)
9. She then explained - as we grabbed our things and were running out - that they had hair problems and that was why they started to require the caps. Clearly they were trying to save on filters, and clearly it wasn´t working.

So if you don´t want to swim in a filthy pool, sit in a knee-high, lukewarm whirlpool, pack a pool cap, and get mistreated in the pool area, even if you are an actual hotel guest, skip this hotel!!!
