“Loved The Buenavista”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2011

Mr. B and myself loved The Buenavista. It has original, wonderful IndoThai decor, beautiful gardens, a deep if very cold pool and is totally original.
I believe we did have one of the best rooms. We were on the top floor in the new building and had a large sun terrace with a sea view, sunbeds and a table and chairs. It is the best balcony/terrace we have ever had in a hotel, totally private, lovely view and trapped all the mid October sun.
The new rooms on the top floor are the same price as the ones on the lower floor whose balcony's were not nearly as good or private with garden views so I guess it is luck of the draw unless you ask in advance.
The owner kindly let me take a tour of the more basic rooms and although they were charming they did seem small and dark, if you can stretch to a room upgrade I believe you will have a much better opinion of The Buenavista.
We found the staff friendly enough if you take the trouble to have basic interaction with them, it is a family business and their home after all.
Breakfast was very good and the different "surprise" eggs every morning kept us guessing.
We enjoyed a couple of drinks in the bar and the garden and didn't have a problem with going to the bar to ask for our drinks or with the staff interacting with each other and locals.
We knew about the steps so these didn't bother us and the staff helped with our bags.
Hot water was a bit hit and miss but the huge walk in shower was a treat and the muslin draped four poster bed very comfortable, no road noise in the top floor rooms.
We had a little nosey in the larger sea front hotels and were extremely pleased that we were experiencing the charm and originality of The Buenavista,
If you enjoy corporate and bland hospitality this is not the place for you.

“Lovely view and as expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

Stayed Sept 2010. When I booked the hotel, I thought we were going to love or hate it - some rooms on photos looked great, others horrible.
We had a room at the end, at the front. It was a noisy road (but I use earplugs anyway - due to hubby's snoring) so it didn't affect my sleep. The good thing about our room was that we had a window in the bathroom on the side of the hotel - so at night having both open formed a through-draft keeping us cool. The one down-side was a cockeral across the road that woke me each day - however, I got to rather like being woken up that way in the end- better than an alarm clock. The room itself was small but the drapes over the bed still made it feel different to a boxy hotel by the marina. It was also kept clean which to me is the main requirement.
We started off looking elsewhere for breakfast - as room only. In the end the hotel was the cheapest option 6 Euros a day, 30 Euros for the week.
However, in the eveing the bar was ridiculously expensive. We had one drink there and never went back. We used the pool and gardens a few times - very peaceful and relaxing. Had to chase the sun round the terrace a bit but we didn't find any broken sunbeds etc.
Location is great - the view from our room was fab, right across the bay (and the hills from the bathroom!). Only a short stroll to the church at the top of the hill and the river below. 5 mins to the beach - A walk past the Italian gelateria to the promenade always ended up with an ice-cream (fab pistaccio). The cheapest, and best bar we found was on the prom by the big fountain. Can't remember the name but their beer was 1.90 Euros a pint and their Mojitos were 2.50 Euros each - and excellent. Also really friendly staff and sardines were good there too.
Otherwise, meals were generally taken in the street of restaurants and tapas in the restaurant on the corner of the main square.
We went to the beach several times and it was quite reasonable to hire loungers ande umbrellas.
We went to Es Cana one day on the ferry and were very glad not to be staying there. Also Ibiza Town really didn't impress that much either - I know it was raining when we went so that may have clouded the judgement - if you go when raining, think about your footwear as everyone was falling on the marble pavements.
All in all, I really liked Santa Eulalia as a place for some late sun and I would be happy to stay in the hotel again - although equally happy to try somewhere new.

“Loads of potential but ...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2010

Positives:
Clean basic accomodation.
Twin room was made up as a double as requested.
Great sea views.
No problems with hot water.
Nice clean pool & quiet peaceful pool area.
No kids (& would not be suitable for young kids, maybe okay for older teenagers).
Good location for town, beach & buses (bus service is very cheap and much better value than boat service to Ibiza Town).
Helpful staff on reception - they even lent us their own fan free of charge as there were none left to hire.
Courtesy room on last day was worth the extra charge - nice clean area and included clean towels and toiletries.
Santa Eulalia is a lovely, clean, safe, family style resort.

Negatives:
Surprisingly little good seafood to be found in Santa Eulalia, predominantly Italian restaurants (strange in Spain! - but we did enjoy the Italian gelati!).
Our room at the front was very noisy all night due to traffic but too hot to close windows, we did not sleep very well all week.
We missed not having a balcony.
No soap provided at all in en-suite bathroom which surprised us.
Lot of ants in room but this problem was sorted after we reported it to reception.
Although at first glance the pool area did appear nice with wooden sun loungers etc, after a couple of days we began to notice that it was not in good repair (broken loungers, missing light shades, debris from previous nights left lying around). Also, throughout our stay certain comfortable seating areas were permanently roped off and marked as 'Reserved' but we never saw them used and nor did other guests we spoke to. This was a shame as we felt that our access to all the facilities was restricted. In addition, there was a dedicated massage area which was never used. We also experienced poor service in the pool/bar area. As a result of this we stopped using the pool area and spent all our time at the beach and always ate out in town. I think the hotel is missing out on huge potential here - if they tidied up the pool area, made guests feel welcome, delivered good service and actively promoted and used the massage area they would be on to a winner with a very cool, Ibiza vibe atmosphere.

“Really great place to chill out and re charge the batteries”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2010

We have just got back from a six night stay at this little place, we have stayed here before
,and yes the rooms are small and basic but the gardens ,eating area and pool are lovely, it is really a great place to chill out and re charge the batteries, its not your usual pastic chair type of accomodation, but it is quite quirky and great for a short break more for couples of all ages. The weather has been fabulous and would definately recomend Ibiza in october, just take something to slip on in the evenings as a couple of nights were breezy, it cost us less to stay here with the flights than it did to stay on a four night break in Brighton last year in october!.
If you come out of the hotel and turn right and cross over the rd [ take care crossing!] you will come to the river where we often went to feed the ducks, its very pleasent, you can walk along the river for five mins, pass the boats and you come to a place that looks like a marquee called Marinas, on sundays they cook a large paella outside for lunch, [ 12 euros] wich is ready about 1.30ish, you can sit with a bottle of wine [or two!] watching the sea come in , i cant think of a better way to spend a sunday afternoon!

“Not that Friendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2010

I wasn't going to write a review because, let's face it, you get what you pay for but having seen another review pointing out the unfriendly service I thought I would add our opinion.

The hotel was exactly as expected, we know it had many, steep steps, we knew there wasn't air conditioning, we weren't expecting a huge luxurious bedroom or bathroom but we did expect a really friendly, family run hotel. This was the bit that differed from what we expected. I don't think we noticed much friendliness, almost the opposite I would say. So much so, that we hardly ever went into the lovely gardens - and the gardens and the pool were lovely - or have a drink there.

Because we had a room on the ground floor, at the front, we felt it unsafe to leave the window open to keep us cool and also the traffic noise was constant and for nearly 24 hours a day as the hotel was so close to the main road. The cleaner did leave the window open after she had cleaned our room everyday though. Of course, the locals would know how safe it was there and perhaps there wasn't any crime in the area. I must admit Santa Eulalia was lovely and we didn't ever feel at risk of any criminal activity. The cost of a fan to keep us cool or a safe to keep our possessions safe was quite high, so we went without and all was well.

Loved the location, near the beach and the lovely town. Just up a slight hill from the beach to the hotel and then the steep steps but that meant we had a good view over the town, down to the sea.

As I say, you get what you pay for and we were quite happy with the hotel as the package with Thomsons was quite cheap and we didn't expect luxury. I would recommend the hotel for its character and price but we did feel unwelcome and we weren't expecting that.
If you keep this all in mind - this hotel would be fine.
