BIG living area
KITCHEN is VERY VERY well equipped - kettle toaster coffee maker grill oven (NEW kitchen BETTER than the pictures on their website)

FANTASTIC SERVICE - the people are LOVELY - 2 minutes in a taxi to everything in alvor

AWESOME - dare I say it ---- as good as bellagio or vdara???? ooops

Stayed at the alvor park in november 2011
This is the place if you really want a quiet holiday and get away from the crowds. The hotel has about 60 rroms and two thirds of them are timeshare. So the people who stay there tend to be the more mature and will look after the place.
We were place in room 1414B on arrival. while there was nothing wrong with the room as it was large, as was the bathroom, it only had one indoor chair and a small table as we preferred to eat breakfast in our room. The balconey was also not as big as the others. On advice from another guest who said people did not stay long in that room we asked to be moved. We then moved to another room with no extra to pay. this room was larger with a sofa and proper table to eat on as well as slightly larger cooking area. Bathroom was smaller. Reception said that they normally put people in our original room if the others are full. so advice to all is avoid any room in the east wing with a 14 in it.
the hotel itself is very convenient to beach and alvor town, with plenty of parking.
Did not sample the breakfast as at 10 euros each we decided that money would be better spent on evening meals. lunch is available but no meals are available in the evening.
Would return to this hotel again if we return to Alvor and are looking for self catering option.

This is the second time i have stay in a Pestana hotel and again i was not disappointed. The Alvor Park was clean quiet and well run. Pity the jaccuzi and sauna were not always available. No help with luggage.

Have been visiting this hotel for the last 6 years since it opened. I am sad to say that it has become very tired, poorly maintained and needs some money spent on it. Here are a few examples of its challenges: Pool towels thin and frayed, Pool sunbeds stretched and uncomfortable, no water in foot baths heading to the pool, so guests dragging dirt and grass (with pesticide treatment) into pool area, poolside shower not working, broken locks and handles in several toilets, bare components with wires exposed in the Jacuzzi, stained tiles to Jacuzzi and toilet area's, Chlorine added to pool by staff member throwing it in via a cup!!, badly rusting shower and door fixings in toilets, scraped walls in just about every corridor etc etc.
I love this hotel, it is like my second home. It is quiet and close to the town and beach. But now it is a sad reflection of what it once was. Our room was actually very good, however we know many people who come here every year who's rooms were very poor with broken worktops / breakfast bars and threadbare carpets and rugs. Two years ago, our room along with five others were broken into and the safes removed from the wardrobes' because they were simply screwed to a shelf. Our safe was replaced and screwed to the wall at our insistence. We were told that all other safes would also be screwed to the wall. This has not been done and it is so easy to steal it.
We have been told that it is due for a major refurb this winter. I hope they do else next year will be our last.
This is simply not good enough Pestana!
