“Beautiful Hotel...very poor service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

The location of the Hotel is amazing, total breathless. The hotel itself has a very nice view in any angle...Although the service goes below the average for a 5 star resort.
We were not informed about the spa fees, even for only using the pool, just saw it on the bill. The restaurant has a terrible service, only one person to order the food, and this one was the manager. How could that be possible? Only one for, at least 10 tables and the manager. That should be managing his staff... for this reason we had a delay of 30 min just to order anything. And after ordering he took 15 min to say that they run out of some ingredients (@9pm)...
The bar at the pool was below the average as well. No one wanted to serve at any cost.
The room service was also very bad and not 24 hours at all. We had a boat trip during day time and we were suppose to have dinner at the hotel (precious booked), but the reception called us during the trip saying that by the time we arrive the kitchen from the restaurant it would be closed (@10pm). We understood and asked for dinner at the room. They served only salad with 2 slices of ham. My husband called the room service in order to ask for more food, someone inside the department was complaining about us....saying "what do they still want? we just left the food there..." and also said that the kitchen for the room service was closed. My husband got very upset and disappointed and on the end.
The only staff I can give compliments is the
Front desk. Their are the best and worth all the stay. All the rest is a shame. Unfortunately I would never come back for that particular Hotel and do not recommend it.

“Awful.”

Worst trip of my entire life. The hotel is hard to reach- a plane, two buses / trains / a €130 taxi, a hydrofoil then an irregular and rude shuttle from the port. The staff are unhelpful and disorganised. The first day of our arrival the tranquil 'spa' played host to a car rally, and the hotel's pool and restaurant facilities were full of noisy, brash Italians who revved their engines. The second day the pool area and restaurant played host to a wedding, with loud music and lots of children. The rooms are not remotely soundproof, you can hear every conversation or every closing door. The weather took a turn for the worse; lashing rain, rolling thunder and lightening. There were two power cuts and nothing to do. There is no 'cinema', no log fire, just a lobby playing awful Italian music on the tannoy. Admittedly the weather is not Therasia's fault; but not having any contingency plans is a nightmare. You are on an island so you really are stuck. The restaurant is rubbish; the breakfast was sparse, cold scrambled eggs and minimal fruit. They ran out of melon on day two, and whilst they have a broad selection of pastries the choice other than that was small. There is no bath in the room, even though we were in a 'deluxe sea view..'. The 'complimentary minibar' features three soft drinks: pepsi, pear juice and water. You can't charge your phone/ laptop without the key in the door, so you have to be in the room. There was no room service menu so whatever you could order was at the whim of whoever , if anyone, was in the kitchen. The manager was rude and unapproachable. There is no wifi in the rooms and very poor signal in the foyer.
Some rays of hope lie in Roberto, a kind receptionist who seemed to take pity on me. There was also a very nice pool man and good waiter. Best part was managing to book an easyjet flight four days early, and being able to check out of our seven night 'holiday' before seven nights were up. However, catching the 0800 hydrofoil in a monsoon was pretty terrifying.

Dear Ms Wade,
we are sorry to learn you did not enjoy your stay with us. Although we endeavour to meet all our guests' requirements to ensure they have a pleasant memorable stay with us, there are a few points regarding your complaints we would like to point out.
Regarding transfers and how to get to the islands, you will find clear explanations on our website, giving the easiest route possible to the hotel, whereby we either reccommend our affordable transfer service directly from the aiport to the hotel, or should guests prefer, a coach service which runs directly from Catania airport to Milazzo port (approx 1.5hrs) from where there are frequent hydrofoils to the islands. Should guests request a transfer service from out hotel, we do provide full assistance, however in your case you did not request a transfer, although had you had any queries regarding how to get here, we would have gladly assisted. Vulcano is part of an archipelago, the Aeolian Islands, so hydrofoils and ferries connect to all the islands - it would be economically impossible and environmentally damaging to provide individual ferries/hydrofoils to each individual island.
At the time of your stay on the island of Vulcano, there was a classic car rally on the island and some participants stayed with us at the hotel. It was also a busy period, hence the volume of people by the pool and in the spa. We regret the noise of the cars however it was an event scheduled beforehand and also not organised by Therasia Resort Sea & Spa, therefore the matter is out of our hands.
Although we do operate a code of conduct at our hotel, we do not discriminate against the nationality of our guests, plus we gladly cater for children. We also host for weddings and events and in such cases there will be music and a jovial atmosphere at the hotel.
Our hotel does not have a beach, and neither have we ever described the hotel as having one. It is a rocky private bathing area, however unfortunately during your stay due to bad weather is was not accessible.
Most of our guestrooms are soundproof, however as there is a number of rooms which are not, we have not officially including a soundproof feature in our descriptions. The same applies as to whether there is a bath or shower - some rooms include both and should guests prefer, they can make a request on booking. In your case, as the hotel was practically full, we were unable to change accommodation.
The hotel does not have a log-fire and there are no descriptions of the hotel which allude to having one. Regarding the music, we play "soft" local music, which in our case, would be Italian.
It is hotel policy to provide complimentary soft drinks and not alcoholic drinks. There is 24 hr room service and there should have been a menu, therefore this is a matter we will have to investigate. We do not have wi-fi in all the rooms and neither do we advertise as having so. However, if you take the door key off of the door you can easily charge your laptop/mobiles in the room.
The stormy weather during your stay was unfortunate, however it is entirely a matter of force majeure that we cannot be held responsible for. However, "monsoons" are unheard of in this part of the world, and although we entirely understand your fear of travelling during a storm, rest assured that hydrofoils/ferries would never have departed should the storms have posed a severe threat.
Bearing in mind the above points, we would, however, like to apologise and express our deep regret that you did not enjoy your stay with us at Therasia Resort Sea & Spa.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further queries.
Kind Regads
Pierpaolo Tiretti

“5* hotel in a 5* location with 3* service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011 via mobile

There is no denying that this is a fantastic location, breath taking setting and beautiful hotel. But the service is average and considering that it brings down the hotel in ratings is a terrible thing.

There are smatterings of 5 star service to be fair.. But smatterings..

Just a few simple adjustments would elevate this hotel considerably.

No pool service and a pool boy that whistles at you to get your attention is not good enough.
Food limited and expensive.
Front desk try their best - that's the best I can say.

Such a shame.

“Very nice hotel with magnificent view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

My family and I stayed for three nights at the end of August. We got an excellent deal on two rooms (for four people). The hotel is in a somewhat remote area of Vulcano, called Vulcanello, so you either need a car or you can use the hotel's shuttle (we had a car though the hotel's shuttle will be just fine if you don't plan to travel too much around the islands). The upside is that you are away from all the touristy stuff.
The hotel's pool is superb with a great view of the southern tip of Lipari island. The rooms are simple but nicely appointed. Breakfast is amazing. We had once dinner at the hotel and it was superb food (if somewhat pricey). Overall I highly recommend it.

Stayed at this hotel whilst traveling with a friend and we have the following comments to make. The location is absolutely breathtaking with probably one of the most sensational views you would find anywhere in the world. The rooms are well appointed and spacious. However there are some basic flaws that need to be addressed for this hotel to match the quality of the location and provide value for money- rooms here are expensive.
- rooms require sound proofing. You can hear every corridor conversation, toilets flushing in upstairs rooms etc.
- the hotel desperately needs a concierge desk. The islands are stunningly beautiful but guests need to know what's on offer and how to get there. We found getting solid information from reception desk staff quite difficult.
-given the central focus of the hotel is it's stunning pool we were surprised there was no pool service. There is a pool bar, but you have jump up and serve yourself. Pool staff were friendly but looked terribly uncomfortable. They should not have to wear long black pants etc when working in 40 plus degree heat!
-someone needs to kill the dreadful 1980s Hilton hotel style live music blaring across the resort every night as the sun goes down. The sunsets are spectacular, but ruined by this tasteless and dated music on offer.
-food options are limited and wildly expensive.
-needs a gym
-it was impossible to get hold of an iron. If you wanted something pressed you had to send it out for cleaning- expensive, unnecessary and time consuming.
All up was very glad to have experienced this amazing place but we were frustrated by the above. Don't miss a boat trip around the island, dinner at Marizio's at Vulcano port, or lunch at Trattoria di Pina on the other side of the island
