Our double room on the 1st floor was bright, spacious and immaculately clean. Indeed, the hotel was immaculate throughout with a fresh clean feel to the simple decor. The hotel owners were extremely helpful and friendly and their english certainly put my german to shame.
Breakfast was continental style with coffee or tea, fruit juice, cereal, bread, a selection of meats and cheeses, and fruit. Simple, but more than adequate.
There is parking to the rear of the hotel (which is signposted off the main road).
My only very minor criticism would be the lack of english channels on the large flat screen satellite tv in our room. The only choice was BBC News 24. But who really needs tv on holiday?
The train station is only 5 minutes walk away, with regular trains into Cologne taking only 20/25 minutes.
For local meals, we found the Ulrich-Stuben to be excellent value (The hotel owner will give you a map and directions - It's a ten minutes walk). Friendly staff and good simple german food (huge portions) at very reasonable cost. The regulars were very welcoming and the local beer was also pretty good... just don't let them draw you into the local drinking game as it was 3am before we got away on our last night!
Although this was supposed to be a one off trip; we now intend to go back sometime soon.
