The hotel Feuriger Tatzlwurm is a great hotel in a great location. It is located about 15 driving minutes from the center of the village of Oberaudorf in a very quiet and rural setting. The hotel premises are beautifully landscaped and include a cute little lake. There are plenty of hiking trails around the hotel, and the eponymous Tatzlwurm waterfall is only a 10-minute walk away. The Tatzlwurm hotel markets itself as a "wellness" hotel and offers a large swimming pool, sauna, and spa services.

We had a junior suite that had a very nice view of the hotel lake and, of course, the alps. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed. The unique interior design is modern with some traditional rustic wood elements. Our suite also came with a real cowhide rug, so if you have strong feelings about animals being turned into rugs and hamburgers then the Tatzlwurm might not be an ideal choice for you.

A somewhat peculiar feature of the Tatzlwurm junior suites is the open bathroom layout. The bathroom is separated from the main room only by a (non-frosted) glass door. Inside the bathroom, there is a three feet tall little wall with a little (frosted) glass gate that encloses the toilet. In other words, you can maintain eye contact with your room-mate or partner while you're sitting on the john. On the other hand, if you are a very private person or suffer from digestive troubles then this set-up may turn out somewhat problematic (see the photo to get a better idea of the bathroom layout).

The breakfast buffet is top notch and offers a large variety of breads and breakfast buns, cereals, and hot breakfast items. There is also a big selection of hot and cold drinks (the fruity whey drink is especially recommendable).

As we stayed only for one night we didn't have much contact with the service staff. When we wanted to take a shower in the morning we noticed that there was no shampoo left in the installed dispenser, so we called housekeeping and requested some shampoo. Thirty minutes later finally someone shows up and brings... hand soap (to be clear: I'm a German native speaker, so it was not a communication problem).

All things considered, the Tatzlwurm can be definitely recommended if you want to enjoy a couple of relaxing days in Upper Bavaria.

I was staying at the Hotel Feuriger Tatzlwurm for a wedding I was attending this summer. The room was a "Junior Suite" in a part of the establishment called the Dragon Kingdom. The room was exquisitely furnished and decorated with warm, raw materials (stone, metal, glass and wood) hinting to the raw elements of a dragons kingdom. I was equally amassed by the beauty of the mountain landscape outside my window. The beds were large and welcoming and the bed linen was a dream. Housekeeping was perfect and the service was spotless.

A few steps from my room were the pool and spa with wide full height windows yielding a powerful view of the surrounding mountains. For an outdoor adventure there are easy access hiking trails starting just back of the hotel, leading past a mighty waterfall and up to the top of the mountain.

As soon as I left the hotel I started dreaming of returning here for a winter holiday.

Very large and well priced accomodation:

Oberaudorf it is quite distant (9 Km of uphill bend).
The receipt (Rechnung) it is only made with: price of the room + price of restaurant, it is impossible to receive the receipt only with the Total amount.

Oberaudorf is in Southern Bavaria on the Austrian border about 15 minutes from Kufstein, Austria. During the winter it's a ski town, but we go in the spring or fall for the hiking both on the German side of the border and in the Kaisertal in Austria. Our other motivation is visiting neighbors who live in O'dorf 6 months out of the year. This was our third stay at Tatzelwurm and each time we come away thinking that it's our favorite place in the world! OK, I'll gush - we've stayed at a couple of Mandarin Orientals, the Four Seasons in Istanbul and other zillion star hotels and Tatzelwurm stands up to them all. It is located about 15 minutes, up a mountain road, from O'dorf. There is the historic main building which houses the fabulous restaurant (now with a new addition) and two newer hotel room wings. I thing there are about 46 rooms. A series of hiking trails can be accessed directly from the hotel as well as a short walk to a waterfall. If you time it right, Rolf, the family German Shepherd, will accompany you. There is also a well equipped health club with sauna, steamroom, jacuzzi and a hokey "aroma therapy grotto." Rooms are immaculate with natural pine trim and furniture, sparkling bathrooms and balconies that overlook the rushing stream. Views are to the forest and to snow capped mountains. Non-smoking rooms are available. This is a family run hotel - the Kiesl family attend to everything. Several family members speak varying degrees of English and the rest of the staff will accomodate anything you need. An incredible breakfast buffet with omelette bar is included with you room. The restaurant is extraordinary with a traditional German menu and more continental and creative offerings. If you're looking for an off the beaten path, relaxing experience, this is definitely the place. We're looking forward to our next visit.
