“Fabulous village house in a great location ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2007

Just returned from a 4 day stay at La Paichero - nothing was too much trouble for Colin and Margaret (the owners). The rooms were spacious, bright and very, very clean. Breakfast was perfect to set you off for the day. Colin and Margaret's local knowledge of places of interest and of course how to get there came in very useful. We would have no hesitation in recommending others to this fabulous village retreat. Lynda and John Carne

“Hospitality plus!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2007

From the moment we arrived at La Paichero in April 2007, Margaret & Colin made us feel very welcome and at home. Our "room" (bedroom, dressing room & ensuite) was large and immaculately clean and comfortable. The tea making facilities (very rare in France) were a very much appreciated comfort. Thank you Margaret & Colin for your consideration. Their extensive knowledge of the area helped us to experience some of the highlights of the Aude region during our 3 day stay, including Rennes de la Chateau, Mirapoix, Vals, Fanjeaux, Carcassonne, St. Hilaire etc.
The continental breakfasts at La Paichero were superb and beautifully presented and more than enough to satisfy one's appetite.
Colin & Margaret suggested a variety of places to eat, however, in our experience after 3 lovely weeks in France, Sunday meals can be a problem especially in the evening.
We highly recommend La Paichero B&B.

“A real gem in a beautiful small town.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2007

La Paichero is a real gem in a beautiful small town, surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards.

This Bed and Breakfast is hosted by a charming English couple, Colin and Margaret, and is situated in the tiny village of Ladern-sur-Lauquet. This is a good location for visiting Carcassonne which is about 25 minutes drive away.

The building has been meticulously restored/updated and the rooms are spacious by any standard and immaculately clean. Colin and Margaret provided excellent advice on local attractions (eg. Carcassonne, Mirepoix, Vals) and on eating establishments, the nearest being in St. Helaire, 5 km away. The meal at the hotel in St. Helaire was easily our most memorable for our stay in France, and, at a prix fixe of only 35 euros! (I can't imagine what that would have cost in Paris!) Other, less expensive but, nevertheless excellent, fare is also available in St. Helaire and other nearby towns. At the recommendation of our hosts, we sampled he local "champagne" product, "Blanquette de Limoux," which was the precursor to the bubbly product with the Champagne appellation, and is available throughout the region. In our opinion, it easily competes with the much more expensive product from the official Champagne region.

We hightly recommend La Paichero!

“More than a B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2007

We realy enjoyed our stay at La.Paichero, their hospitality was a joy, their help in recomending places to eat was such a help and we eat like royalty including the breakfasts. The room (honeysuckle) was large airy and perfect for us. There is so much to do and see in the area that we are hoping to return soon. Peter and Pat Richards Ireland

“The Greatest B&B in The Aude”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2007

We returned to this beautiful B&B again after a stay in September. This visit as before was greatly enjoyed. Margaret & Colin the owners of the B&B are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them to make your trip a memorable one.
Colin helped me out last trip after I had left my driving licence at home!!!
The accommodation consists of 4 ensuite double rooms and is extremely comfortable, the food is wonderful and the welcome second to none.
Being only 10/15 minutes from the medieval town of Carcassonne this B&B is a great base for a driving holiday in The Aude area with its great wineries and mountain views. Other interesting towns to visit with their markets are Mirepoix and Limoux and also St Hillaire a village not to be missed with its ancient Abbey.
Spoil yourselves and visit 'La Paichero', you will not regret it.
