We stayed here on the last night of a Shearings coach tour from the UK. I don't usually complain, but this hotel was very poor for a Best Western. It was cold, cheerless and the stairs were in darkness when we arrived...(fortunately there was a lift!) Our room was chilly and had a radiator that took forever to warm up and we were REALLY cold! The radiator in the bathroom didn't work at all and the back of it was felted with dust, although the bathroom was otherwise reasonably clean and quite adequate. The carpet in our room was unpleasantly stained. The TV didn't work. My fork and spoon for the evening meal was dirty and was sullenly replaced without an apology. However the meat stew was delicious! The young man in charge tried to be helpful, but there was nothing much he could do about the lack of heat, and although tea/coffee making sets were advertised in the hotel booklet as available for the rooms, we were directed to use a machine outside the dining room on the ground floor! Extra blankets were provided, but we had to go down to the desk for them. Breakfast, on the other hand, was surprisingly good and staff were pleasant and helpful. I was VERY disappointed that Shearings accommodated us in this bleak, tired and chilly hotel which is apparently past its best. I would not wish to ever stay here again.
