Uitstekende keuken, vriendelijk onthaal ,prachtige vernieuwde kamers ,torensuite is een echte aanrader.Aan te bevelen!!

We chose this hotel after research indicated that some rooms were recently renovated in trendy style. We took a suite, with a quality sleep-sofa for the children (8 and 6 yrs). The floor and walls were original, while the furniture and fittings were modern/trendy - a combination we enjoy very much. Great views onto the street, and a little terrace added to the charm. The people running this hotel are wonderful, very helpful and friendly. The location is great, with a short walk to the beach - De Haan is mostly unknown to those outside the area, and the beach and town are a pleasant surprise. Breakfast was solid, and we'd certainly consider returning to this hotel.

This was our second trip to Belgium (we'd visited Bruges New Year 2003 - great food and sightseeing). We chose Grand Hotel Belle Vue as tripadvisor had listed it as the no. 1 hotel in De Haan. We didn't get a chance to visit other hotels in De Haan so can't comment on how accurate this is. De Haan doesn't come close to Bruges in terms of food and sights but is still a quaint area. We had very good weather whilst we were there (end of Aug 09); we walked along the promenade area a couple of times which was very pleasant. There is a very long stretch of beach, so the beach was busy but not overcrowded. There was also a very good selection of hire bikes for adults and children.
There are some local shops nearby (specialist belgian chocolates, waffles, supermarket, sports/beachwear, shoes, and pharmacy). There are also a number of local restaurants. Previous posts had recommended 'Casanova' which is near the beach but we didn't have time to visit. The tram is an excellent method of transport - clean, economical and reliable.

The Hotel

Positives:
- excellent location - 1 min from tram stop, 5 min walk to beach
- we stayed in a newly refurbished room that was very tastefully decorated (clean/simple)
- we dined in the hotel restaurant once (white fish was good, desserts were delicious)
- this is a family-run hotel - we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful
- hotel atmosphere very relaxed and laidback

Negatives:
- hotel restaurant menu was listed in dutch, french, german but not english
- the main corridor/lift is dated, although we understand that the hotel is due to complete a full refurbishment ahead of Christmas 2009

We arrived late on a December's evening to a warm welcome by the proprietor.
Our room had been recently renovated and was very comfortable with a fantastic shower! Fresh fruit was a nice touch.
We were greeted the following morning by name and enjoyed a lovely buffet breakfast. We didn't dine in the hotel but understand from the locals that the food is good.
The hotel is situated about 10-15 minutes walk from a magnificent beach. It is centrally located in De Haan close to bars and restaurants. We were concerned that it 's proximity to the tram line might have been noisy but our room was not.
The hotel is undergoing an extensive renovation prrogramme and the public areas are still undoubtedly tired but in NO WAY did this detract from our stay.

The proprietors ar charming and we look forward to a return visit to see the results of their hard work.
