“Chateau of your own”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2008

The chateau is beautiful, and I think we were the only ones there, so we had the place to ourselves (literally). The staff works 8-5pm, so don't expect service in the middle of the night (or even in the evening). But, if you're comfortable finding your own way, it is a stunning chateau in a beautiful setting, for a very reasonable price. The room that we stayed in (with a sports theme) was very large and quite nice, although it was a bit cold at night (stayed in late May) - but plenty of blankets.

We had access to the living room at night with a TV (only French and Flemish channels, no English), and with wine and other beverages available on the honor system.

Breakfast was very nice (cold meats, cheese, coffee, tea, yogurt, cereals, breads), and they were thoughtful enough to put out a high chair for our 18 month old (we had requested - and received - a fairly new crib for the little one as well).

Need to keep in mind to check in before 5pm, and check out after 8am. The credit card machine was broken when we were there, so we needed to go find cash (at the Liege airport - about 10 minutes away) in order to pay. This was a bit inconvenient, but the setting, place, and price made up for it.

Would definitely recommend this as a nice, quiet, charming place to stay, but don't expect 5 star service or amenities.

“Looks great, but the service wasn´t right”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2008

We booked our romantic room on a short notice, the day before arrival. The room had a jacuzzi and water bed.
When we arrived the owner told us that the jacuzzi has broke down, and the they would repair it on Saturday. We where a little bit disappointed, but for the inconvenience the owner offered us a diner check. We had a great diner.
During the night we could hardly sleep because the water bed was filled with to much water, and we could not find a good sleeping position. In the morning we informed the owner about this problem. He promised us that he would take care about it and that the jacuzzi also would be repaired that day. After spending a wonderful day, we arrived back at the Chateaux, to have some romantic evening. Filling up the jacuzzi, and give it a go, but the jacuzzi did not start at all. What a disappointment. But we relax by the open fire. Later lying down on the bed, the bed was fixed, so again a very bad night.
The next morning the owner was not there. We could not complain to him. His wife was there, but she came with some excuses about that the worker had taken the pump and so on.
Coming home I wrote a email to the owner, about my complains. But they did not border at all to give some reaction.
If they only had left a message informing us, about what was going on, we would be so disappointed.

“Lions await you!”

We just returned from a weekend at the chateau and we will certainly be coming back.
The 'chateau' feeling already starts at the front of the stairs as two huge concrete lions await you while you walk towards the reception.

The owner, who happens to be Dutch, was very friendly and helpful. Although we were arrived late and booked late, Luuk was very willing to give us a lift by car to the place we were staying.

Breakfast at the chateau was wonderful and we took Luuk's day spending tips by heart. Too bad we didn't bring the kids, they would have loved it.

I could resist touching the beatiful grand piano this time, but no guarantees for the future.

“escaped at the Chateau -Lexhy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2007

We stayed at the Chateau Lexhy on 3rd May 2007. Apart from being pretty tricky to find (due to the usual, signposted route being temporailty closed), we arrived late evening to a very warm welcome from Luke, the owner.

The Chateau is a slice of history, hidden in the quietest of locations. Pulling up the drive, you really feel as if you've found a treasure. We were shown to our room, which had a hunting theme - absolutely fantastic, but unfortunately not to our taste (I work for an animal welfare charity!) The room was fabulous, though! My husband gently asked if we might try another "theme", and Luke moved us immediately to a different room, which we both loved. It felt like home, but in a grand way! I think we must have been the only guests (I seem to remember there are just five suites) so it felt unbelivably personal. We relaxed immediately!

The hotel is huge and impressive. We had the best night sleep for ages (not easy in a new place), and woke to complete quiet, just birds singing. Our breakfast - which could have been served on the terrace but it was a bit nippy! - was continental style, and very relaxed.

We spent the rest of the morning exploring the grounds, walking the gardens and helping ourselves to the bar of tea/coffee.

We left certain we'd be back - as the room had two double beds, we might even bring the kids!

This hotel deserves to do well as a reasonably new venture, and we will certainly enjoy staying there again.
