I booked this hotel after reading the description on Bookings.Com. Recently built and spacious accomodation with a kitchen and balcony, it seemed just right for us.
On arrival in the afternoon of 25 July we could not gain access to the hotel as a key card was needed to get in. We could see that the reception desk was not staffed and there was no sign of anyone at all. After waiting for about 10 minutes a maid appeared in reception and let us in. She spoke no English but there was a message on the reception desk that it would not be staffed that day and that breakfast at weekends had to be taken at a sister hotel. Envelopes containing key cards for named guests arriving today were on the desk but none could be found for me. The maid telephoned the sister hotel who told her I had to go there to check in and get a key. Although she spoke no English I got the message when she pointed out the location of the other hotel on a map.
It was red hot and we had to carry heavy bags about half a mile to this hotel where we were met by a very surly receptionist. She made no apology for our inconvenience. I asked if there was a room available in this sister hotel as I didn't fancy lugging the bags back in the heat. She wanted to check me in without indicating the rate, although I repeatedly asked her for the room rate. I gave up on that and asked for the key to the first hotel, that put her in a strop as she said she had changed the booking to the hotel we were now at. With bad grace she reinstated the booking for the original hotel and gave me the key. Then she switched to being all smiling and told us we had to come back to this hotel for breakfast in the morning. What a ridiculous arrangement, it could be lashing with rain in the morning.
We lugged the bags back in the intense heat and entered the hotel. The room was exactly as described by Bookings.Com, very spacious and modern and spotless. I went to look at the balcony and found it submerged in several inches of water, checked the kitchen and found the fridge was not working , although plugged in. Then checked the room safe and it was left locked by the previous resident, so that was useless. Surely anyone servicing the room should have picked up these glaring problems.
What a shame, as this is excellent accomodation, it is just being spoiled by bad management. By the way, when I asked for the Manager at the sister hotel, he was not available, apparently he was in the Ardennes and nobody else was in charge!
No staff were present at the hotel during our stay and no information booklet was in the rooms, not even for the telephone.
I have stayed in many hotels but have never encountered this anywhere. They have no regard for guests whatsoever.
