We stayed in this hotel for a 4 day skiing holiday and can only write a good review despite some of the negative comments from other guests on here. The hotel has everything on offer with very friendly staff who will always be there to assist. We arrived at 1am due to flight delays and the staff had food prepared for us for our arrival. The room was clean, with a balcony overlooking the most stunning mountain range. We had a seating area in our room, a large wardrobe, a clean bathroom with a very good shower with a hairdryer, a separate toilet, the foyer where we could hang up our ski gear. The only downside was the double bed which actually comprised of 2 single beds screwed together with the bedframes deviding the mattresses, so not too comfortable if you want to snuggle up with your partner. Some people on here got upset because the towels didn't get changed every day (something I certainly don't do at home). Most hotels actually ask you to consider this environmental factor by not leaving your towels on the floor. I actually wish to congratulate this hotel that they took matters in their own hands in order to be greener to the environment and change the towels every 2nd day. Our room was attended to every day, it was clean & beds were made when we returned from our skiing trip. The staff were very friendly and were available when needed. We received good advice for ski rental and were told our hotel staff would pick up our shoes from the rental shop so we didn't have to worry about taking them with us skiing but the hire place actually offered to drop them at the hotel anyway. The food in the hotel was lovely and of good quality. I am Austrian myself and can assure you that the products used were of high quality and not just 'tourist food' you get in some other resorts. We had half board and there was a good Austrian breakfast buffet on offer comprising of different types of drinks, cereal, jams, varieties of ham and bread, bacon, eggs etc etc I may add that this is an Austrian hotel and the food that was on offer was what Austrian eat, so if you are after a huge choice of hot food for a huge fry up then you may be disappointed, however you are in Austria, so why not eat what Austrians eat. At breakfast we were given the evening meal options in order to choose our meal for the dinner. I was very impressed with this because it avoids wastage of food that will never be eaten conisering the hotel can cater for the right amount of meals that will be eaten, however it was possible to change your mind in the evening if you really fancied a different meal, obvioulsy not if everyone would do so. The hotel facilities were very good and we had everything we needed ie swimming pool, sauna, pool table, several areas to hang out & chill to enjoy a quiet drink or play board games. There is an apre ski huette at the rear of the hotel so you never had far to go 'home'. The hotel has its own piano bar and only on the last day did we find another huge bar that we never visited before and it wouldn't surprise me if there are other hidden gems somewhere within the hotel we didn't get to explore!
A ski bus takes you to the nearby cablecar which is only a short trip. You have the option to walk down a small slope from the ski cellar to catch the bus or walk through the hotel and take the hotels own ski lift that drops you at the bottom of the road to catch the ski bus right there.
We would certainly return to this hotel at any time. However if you are after a holiday with lots of apres ski options full off loud drinking people then maybe this hotel and area is not for you and you are better off to go to the more well known areas in the Zillertal region that would cater for this. Personally we wanted to ski in a quieter region that is not over run by tourists and lager louts and with Hotel Goldried we found exactly that.
