Excellent hotel , with all the Austrian Alps pleasures .
Rooms are very comfortable and clean.
Apart from all the expected Austrian meals , the restaurant has great food selections from the area (trout, deer , duck,...) , all very fresh and greatly cooked . Very large and tasty breakfast buffet . Local cheeses , speck (sliced smoked ham) , specialty breads , all combined to some very unique experiences . The hotel has a bar that serves decent beers (try the local Egger or similar) , and many other drinks , all the way to the last client (although it thins out by 11pm). Great local stuff , very polite and helpfull (remember that many there do not speak English). Check out the pictures on the restaurant taken by one of the local hostesses . The wine cellar is selective, with great Promis (Toscana,2005 and 2006) and some great surprises like the Big John (actual name of an Austrian wine) . Don't forget the schnapps .
Half-board is interesting , as it cover breakfast and dinner and during dinner you always have at least 3 options and every night is different . Kids eat well , as it has always something for them .
The hotel is very family friendly , and very quiet . Do not expect any après-ski there . If you want some small action , walk down to Ellmau (10-15 min walk) , or for some serious action , to Kitzbuhel (15min drive - mind the cops on the way with their radar guns , get a designated driver...) . Past 9pm most are already in their rooms and the hotel remains quiet throughout the night (no spring breakers here) . Teenagers who enjoy the skiing will love it , but those who expect much action will be be bored soon . Note : this lift is the beginning of a very large skiing area (WilderKaiser) , so you can probably ski 2 days without covering the same run) . A couple of nearby easy learning slopes is also convenient.
The hotel stays just above the base of the main cart up the mountain , so it's an easy ski in-out . It also sits at the bottom of the sledge run (lit night runs as well , with interesting schnapps pit stops in the way down) . You can easily walk down to Going , or to Ellmau.
There aren’t' that many rooms , so advance booking is advised (I make mine 12 months in advance) . Many of the rooms have mountain view , which are breathtaking . Each room is a little different , so ask what exactly you are getting .
Indoor pool with view to the slopes , and saunas and massage rooms underneath the pool area . Some internet on the lobby , but this is only if you are really desperate .
It has a ski room , so all you gear can be stored there .
It's also convenient to buy the ski pass at the lobby , and charge it to the room . So all you do is ski in straight into the lift.
Most of their reservations are from Sat to Sat . It is located at about 2.5hrs from Munich or Salzburg (closer to Innsbruck , but could never get a flight that matched).
