“Loved it so we are going back..!”

We have read some of the negative reviews of this hotel and felt we should put in our own review because we don't agree! We stayed for a week - end February/beginning of March 2011 with a couple of friends of ours. The welcome was warm and check-in to the hotel was quick and efficient. The rooms we were allocated were ok - I wouldn't rave about them. They were clean, spacious and functional. We had a great view from our balcony on to the square at the back of the hotel. I have seen photos of some of the rooms at the hotel and they look lovely. They could be suites but in any event, our rooms were not like that. That didn't matter when you considered the outstanding food were spoiled with. Breakfast suits everyone's palate - lots of choice, no queues (pet hate of mine) - all good. Lunch we sorted out ourselves at a variety of eateries on the mountain. Dinner was almost certainly a highlight of the entire trip. We simply could not believe the quality of the 3 courses we were presented with (after having chosen what we wanted to have at breakfast). Beautifully cooked, put together - art on a plate!

The pass to the Alpentherme was also a highlight. A dip in either the indoor or, better still, the outdoor part of the pool after a day on the slopes was fantastic. The underground network of tunnels linking the hotels to the spa is a sight to see and allows you to simply wear a robe and slippers and take the short walk to it from your hotel room.

The town is small and very stylish. We found a lack of places to go after dinner in the evenings and when we found the 'kamikaze' bar with a great barman and music, we thought we'd found our hang out for the week. However, we returned only to find it closed at odd times.. Including a Friday night. V strange at the height of the season. That was the only down side we could find. Otherwise, fabulous shopping, coffee and cake shops, supermarkets etc. Everything we needed, was there.

The four of us agreed it was one of the best ski holidays we had been on, so much so, we are booked to go back this year and we are staying at the same hotel. Here's hoping the great experience we had last year is matched this time...

Room Tip: Room with a view at the back of the hotel

“Fantastic location & great food!”

This was our first time in Austria. I booked the hotel direct and everything went smoothly. We received a very warm welcome when we arrived and had an escorted tour round the hotel and to our room.

The room was very spacious with a large balcony overlooking the concert hall. The decor was very good and everything in the room was clean and worked well.

We were extremely pleased with the hotel pool, but couldn't work out why nobody used it! Then we decided to try out the Alpen Therme. It was fantastic. With late opening towards the end of the week, we were able to go along for a couple of hours after dinner too.

Breakfast and dinner at the hotel were perfect. A good selection of food, and a five course meal most nights. It was good to try different foods that you wouldn't normally opt for, but nothing disappointed. It is amazing how quickly you get full up after eating lots of small courses.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, speaking good English. There is absolutely nothing that we could fault this hotel for. It's location was perfect, and the Cafe served fantastic cakes and ice cream!

Parking and internet were used, and we were very happy with the private garage and speed of internet connection.

Thank you to the owners and staff for making our stay in Austria enjoyable and making us feel right at home.

we are a group made up of three different families most of whom had stayed in Badhofgastein before. The first thing I would express is surprise that this hotel is rated as a 4 star. The rooms are adequate and clean. However the hotel lacks atmosphere and customer service. We were allocated a waitress for the week, we spent there ,who had little or no english constantly glowered at us and who generally lacked charm she was not on her own as most of the other staff verged on unpleasant. also.
Dinner is a hurried affair as "last orders" are at 2015hours. The food is generally ok but is preprepared so there is no flexibility for a meal to be served without cheese for example on the top , portions tend to be on the small side for the hungry teenagers in our group Breakfast was very good every morning with lots of variety l
The big plus for this hotel is its attachment to the alpentherme which is a municipal facility made up of different areas for families to relax eg family world with poolside cinema, ladies world,. sport world and sauna world etc

Have stayed in Austria hotels on Family ski ing trip for past 12 years and loved them, this one was the most unfriendly. It just lacks any kind of atmosphere and you feel like you are doing the hotel a favour being there. There is no stocked bar area to relax for a drink after your meal as you have to find a member of staff to get you a drink. The rooms are okay and ours was clean which you expect in Austria. The swimming pool area is nice and access to the Alpentherme is a bonus. Meals are okay but served much too quickly, it is not a really memorable dining experience, more get them in, get them fed and get them out. Good location in the town but so much more could be made of this hotel.

“The alpentherme makes it”

We booked the hotel for a week’s skiing. We booked with Directski. Com and everything went smoothly – less than 90 minutes from baggage reclaim to hotel check in. We had booked a suite for a good price. It was exceptionally large. The decor was bit tired and there were a few minor drawbacks ( a shower only , no bath, and very few coat hooks when you really need a lot when you have skiing gear and you have to collect the bathrobes from reception). There as no wifi in teh room but the TV was a big flat screen and, pleasingly, didn’t have just have CNN as it’s English language channel (which seems enough to tick the box for some hotels) but had two British channels (BBC news and BBC entertainment). The two most important things for us are that the room is room is very clean and was very quiet; this scored on both counts so we were, in general, very happy with it. The meals were all good quality 4 star Austrian ski hotel. The reception area is very small as is the lounge – a disadvantage when check in is busy but it did give the hotel an intimate feel. The town of Bad Hof Gastein itself is quiet but very pleasant: no shops open on Saturday afternoon or Sunday, it has no through traffic) and no noisy bars but it does have an open air ice rink and very attractive streets to wander. The ski room at the hotel was handy for the ski bus which is very frequent to the bus station at the bottom of the funicular railway up the mountain and from where you can get free skibuses to other areas. As intermediates, we found the ski area varied and interesting. One day, when an ear infection prevented skiing, we also got the ski bus to Bad Gastein which was fascinating because the centre is virtually empty pending redevelopment. If you ski into it, you arrive at the edge of the town and so do not see the town centre (unless you walk down which I suggest would be very difficult in ski boots!). We never used the hotel’s pool but accessed the– Alpentherme by a heated underground walkway from this hotel and the Norica (which is next door). When you enter the Alpentherme you walk through the treatment area reception and then pass the gym before entering the swimming pool area. The pool looked good an ideal for families and young children. Beyond that there is the adults only Sauna world. It has a dozen saunas and steam rooms plus an outside pool. Even if you do nothing else in the sauna world, you must try one of the sauna sessions where an attendant sprays the sauna with fragrant oils and wafts the scented air around the sauna (this takes place in a large sauna at the very far end every hour from 3.00 onwards). As is usual in Austria, no costumes are allowed and the attendants did politely enforce the rule for one bashful couple who tried to enter and seemed oblivious to the two dozen naked people already in. The relaxation lounge above the big sauna has beautiful views of the mountains for afterwards. It is a magnificent way to end the day before returning to the hotel for the evening meal.
You can get, and we have often had, the hotel quality, food and skiing elsewhere in Austria but the clincher for this one is the link to Alpentherme.
