“Just what we were hoping for”

We stayed in Sue's loft, and it was terrific and perfect for 2 people. Sue met us at a designated location (easy to find) and led us up to the house. The big house is beautiful, by the way. She provided us with tons of towels and and the kitchen had everything we needed (even a corkscrew). There was even bug repellant, aloe, aspirin, and other necessities in case you forget something. The rainforest is loud at night with singing frogs but that is to be expected and I slept very well. It is certainly not a sterile environment, which is to be expected- it is a real house in a real wilderness and if you are prepared for that then you will really enjoy yourself. It is about 10 minutes from town and the El Yunque entrance. Perfect distance!

Room Tip: The loft sleeps 2 comfortably in 1 bed. The big house sleeps a ton with several bedrooms.

“What an amazing place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011 via mobile

We stayed in the loft and had a wonderful time! Sue met us at an intersection just before the turn to the house. She provided us with a very detailed map of how to get back to the loft once we were on our own, but lead us up the first time. She had all sorts of unexpected amenities such as alot of extra towels, BBQ grill, plenty of pots pans and dishes, various spices and seasonings an even aloe vera to sooth your sunburnt skin (just in case). The loft was surrounded by lush rainforest and the local coqui sang us to sleep every night. The trip up to the house was a part of te adventure each night, the winding roads and mountain views along the way were fun and beautiful to drive. The loft itself was very quaint and comfortable. The kitchen was enough to cook breakfast and dinner each day, the fridge was very spacious and held our groceries with no issues, Sue even though to stock it with fresh coffee! The living room was nice to relax in after a day out on the island, the bathroom was full of extras just in case you forgot something, such as bug spray, aloe vera, ear plugs in case the coqui were too loud, lotion and some advil to ease those sore muscles. I was extremely surprised to find there was hot water in the bath, I've been to PR before and stayed were there was no hot water, so that was very much appreciated! The loft bedroom was a nice end to the days and the bed was very comfortable and situated right next to a row of windows to help keep you cool. The house was a short, beautiful 10 minute back road drive to El Yunque Rainforest. We took the short cut and enjoyed a private drive into the forest. The road was also winding and even boasted a beautiful waterfall and river. Sue has a little piece of heaven stashed away in the hills of the rainforest. I would highly recommend Sue's place to anyone looking to stay off the beaten path and enjoy the feeling o being a local rainforest resident!
Thank you Sue for an amazing experience!!

I stayed here back in may 2010 with my fiance who I proposed too while there. This place is so private and secluded its one of my favorite places. You'll have to be guided there its that deep in the forest. You definitely have to love nature and sounds of the jungle as this place gets loud in a good way with nightlife.

“Ideal rainforest experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2011

My husband and I have stayed at Sue’s Place four times and I am chagrined to admit that I am only now taking the time to write about it. If you don’t require the sterile environment of a standard Holiday Inn room but are a little more adventurous, you will undoubtedly find Sue’s Place delightful. Nestled in the rainforest, surrounded by lush tropical trees and flowers, it is located minutes away from El Yunque Caribbean National Rainforest, as well as the town of Luquillo with its beautiful beach and a wide array of kiosks where you can choose to explore typical Puerto Rican fare one night and Spanish tapas or Peruvian food another.

Sue and Bob are warm, generous, and charming hosts who did everything in their power to ensure that we got the most out of our stay on the island. We stayed at the loft: a quaint and very comfortable studio apartment with a porch where warm Caribbean breezes caressed our skin and the coquis serenaded us, as we swung carefree on a hammock.

The last time we were there we noticed that they had replaced the bed, the refrigerator and the stove, and were impressed with their conscientious efforts to maintain the property.

We highly recommend Sue’s Place for a uniquely charming and romantic experience.

“A true rain forest stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2011

Sue was so nice on the phone and very helpful. She and Bob met us in town and showed us the way to the Loft which was a little small and definitely an almost outdoor experience with the beautiful porch and rustic cabin kitchen. The coqui sang us loudly to sleep and we felt surrounded by the beautiful rain forest and even got an indoor scare with a large cockroach. But it was much more authentic than staying at a chain hotel and feeling detatched from the beauty around us.
