“incredible for the money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2010

We spent the night before our wedding at Camp David. We had previously stayed there for several days. I asked that our room be decorated with flower pedals and it was absolutely amazing. My wife cried it was so beautiful. The food is incredible and the view stunning. They set a beautiful table on the balcony for us and we ordered room service. Our meal, the room decorations, breakfast and a good bottle of red wine costs us $145.00.What a bargain.... .It is cool all the time at Camp David.Anyone visiting Santiago needs to visit Camp David. It is 20 minutes outside the city but that is what makes it beautiful,.

“Not Close to City”

I was so excited to go to Santiago and stay at this hotel overlooking the city, but was quite disappointed upon arrival. The room (#22) was very drab and dingy. The bedding grossed me out and the bed was not comfortable. The view of the city in the early morning hours and night was beautiful, but was hindered by the view of the hotel's tin roof below our balcony. If you are looking to spend time in the city and don't have a car, this is not the place to stay. It is a 400-500 RD peso ($12-15 USD) taxi ride into the city and the same amount to return. Some taxi drivers we found wouldn't even take us to the hotel for fear their cars wouldn't make it up the mountain. We enjoyed our dinner at the hotel- the food was pretty good and the view was nice. We ordered room service both mornings and the food arrived cold. We had planned on staying 5 nights, but ended up leaving after 2. The lobby is pretty. I may return to this place for dinner, but would not sleep there.

“Good for staying and amazing view”

Camp David is very close from Santiago centre.
Rooms are easy and not modern, but comfortable and spacious, inexpensive and clean, with air conditioner, cable TV, with spacious bathroom and balconies with perfect view. The most thing is amazing views of the city, especially at the night time.
It also has the good restaurant with local and international cuisine.

“NICE LITTLE HOTEL WITH AN AMAZING VIEW FO THE CITY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2010

We stayed at this hotel for three nights on our visit to the Dominican Republic. This is a nice little hotel up on hill in Santiago. The view is incredible!. It is very quiet.. if you are looking to stay in a clean, basic and nice little hotel this is the one. The rooms are ok. the ones on the old building are very old and outdated. When we first came in they gave us a room on the old buliding where the reception and restaurant are located. My husdband requested one on the new building wchih is right across and it was much better. The rooms are basic, but spacious, with a flat screen TV. that give it a more modern look. The bathroom could use a little updating. there was water leakign from somewhere in the room, i could not tell if it was comming from the bathroom or the ceiling( i personally didnt care much , but i knw some of my fellow travelres do) We travelled with our infant daughter, she is sixteen months, over all it was a nice stay. The lobby is really nice. they have vintage cars from the Trujillo Era. The restaurant is nice also, alot of business people and turists come over for dinner. The view is amazing!!!. The food is ok. We had breakfast and dinner. I would say for the price of $63.00 per night is worth it. The only thing is the drive up the mountain.. some people might not like it, specally at night becasue is dark. I will try to post some pictures.

“Great view, decent rooms, loud party”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2010

We stayed two nights over a weekend. The view of Santiago is worth a night here, and the restaurant serves good food. The rooms are large and clean but spare and old. No a/c was not a problem because the air at our elevation was cool even during the day. Our biggest complaint was that a loud wedding party was held directly below us that lasted very late into the night, complete with a drunk shouting match between a couple of the party goers to cap it off at about 3 am. This was even worse than you might expect because the doors are not sealed and the sound came in freely. Kind of defeated the purpose of getting out of the city center for peace and quiet. We requested another room away from the party for the second night, which the hotel accommodated. Minus the party it wasn't a bad place to stay. However, my recommendation for tourists is to skip Santiago altogether. There is not much to do there. If you're looking for an "authentic" Dominican experience away from the mega resorts on the north coast, I would drive east past Cabarete and Rio San Juan to the area around Playa Grande. There are a few nice hotels in that part of the coast, and a much more "local" experience, but still plenty of activities to keep you busy.
