We had a wonderful week in Dominica. It was everything we expected...and much more. First of all, Calibishie Cove is just beautiful, the apartments are spacious and well kept, and the staff is delightful and dedicated. Second, the island is a paradise; Calibishie is a lovely hamlet; the residents are wonderful, warm, welcoming, and friendly; the weather was perfect.
About our stay at Calibishie Cove: We spent the week in their Rainforest Suite. Giant covered deck overlooking the ocean and forest. Lots of room inside. Small, functional kitchen area. It was great! The entire staff treated us like family from the moment of our arrival. The manager, Hazel, is a marvel. All of her guests feel like they are the only guests there. She creates a family atmosphere among the guests and staff, and we can't count how many times we were asked if there was anything anyone could do for us to make our stay just a little bit better. The food is really wonderful, well prepared and delightfully presented. Our breakfasts were prepared whenever we wanted them, and timely to the minute. The atmosphere is relaxed, and friendly. We cannot say enough to adequately praise the way we were treated while there. Hazel even took time out of her busy day to teach us how to prepare some of the local island dishes. We have never had a better time nor enjoyed ourselves more anywhere in our somewhat extensive travels.
We also toured with Jenner Robinson, an independent tour guide that is affiliated somehow with the B&B. He's a great resource, will even help with car rental at the airport. He's listed on their web site, and we highly recommend him to those visiting there. You can find him on their web site.
Although we have traveled extensively, this was our first trip to Dominica. We have wanted to visit for years, mostly because we're sort of country mice, and the island has a reputation for being somewhat undeveloped. Unfortunately, it's also somewhat difficult to get to from New Mexico, so we kept putting it off. OUR LOSS! We are so smitten that we have vowed, God willing, to visit again early next year...this time for a considerably longer stay.
