I took my wife away for what I thought was going to be a wonderful, romantic four days,
to the Marine Hotel in Mallaig. What I actually took her to was a disgrace that advertises
it's self as an Hotel. When we arrived,we were given the keys to a room that the "receptionist" was obviously far too embarrased to take us to,or it could have been that she was just too lazy to climb the stairs to take us there, I'm still not sure which. When the room was booked I thought that we were going to have a lovely view of the sea,so romantic, but no,the first thing we say when we walked into our £90 a night room was a view of a brick wall from our window. There was absoulutely nothing about this place that merits the prices that they charge. The carpets were stained, towels that my wife wouldn't even use as cleaning rags, light fittings that are hanging from the ceiling, badly dented heater, torn wallpaper, veneer damaged dressing table, which my wife torn a dress on,A midew covered shower tray and the cheapest of cheap toilet rolls. The room was meant to be cleaned every day,but the only thing that was done was ,the dirty towels were folded, not changed in the four days we stayed there and the bed covers were straightened up,which my wife had already done.I had read previous reviews from 2009 about this place, but thought that as it was supposed to be under new management and renovations had been done,as stated on their site, that we would take a chance. We were told that because they get a bad reception that, that was the reason our TV kept changing channels...no....in fact they just haven't bothered tuning in their TVs.All I can say about this place is avoid it like the plague !The staff that we came across were unfriendly, uninterested and appeared to want to be somewhere else. The kitchen was closed for three of the four days we were there, except fot breakfast, thank heavens we don't eat as was their Residents Lounge.
We had a " Quiet " drink in their bar, which I won't bother to try and describe.......except to say......Don't bother with that either, even if you visit Mallaig. My wife has forgiven me by the way on the way back home to Edinburgh,I took her to stay in a lovely Guest House in Arisaig.
