Stayed here for one night only waiting for the ferry to Skye. The price, £50, was ok at the time we stayed and this was what made us go there as it is largely advertised outside. However, this is the only refurbishment we could find, and I suspect some of the reviews here to be bogus as the carpets for sure are not new, neither is the kitchen, bar and television. I could lift the mystery around the TV's ongoing switching between programs, it seems to me it is an interference with other people using their remote control. Walls and doors are very thin and you can actually hear everything that is going on in the hotel. Including people running through corridors at night, I suppose it was some of the very recommendable council area like patrons from the downstairs bar. The hygiene could be all right however, except for the really appalling state the bath tub was in. It is best to use slippers when taking a shower. Windows are full of bird droppings which may be supposed to make the sea view more authentic. No reception, no restaurant, no service, no breakfast.
Overall I felt like in a rundown motel with local hillbillies down at the bar and staff I would not necessarily trust more. I witnessed one gentleman checking in and staff being mockingly polite for him booking such a distinguished hotel. Ah yes, the nicest was the bathroom bin which had not been emptied for ages, very interesting contents. The price could be all right as it is the cheapest hotel around but it certainly still is not value for money. You can stay there without too much disgust, but I definitely would not stay there for more than one night, would choose a B and B if available, unless you risk spoiling your holiday. Modest patrons only.
