“Fantastic!”

We arrived early with our back packs and were treated to a much appreciated early check-in (room 8). Our large room had the most comfortable bed, modern, up-market en-suite and fantastic views of the islands and the town. The dining room and entrance lounge are very grand with sweeping views across the water. The whole place harks back to by-gone era and is clearly being lovingly restored by the new owners. There are smart leather sofas around the open fire which is the cosiest place to sit. Breakfast was generous with a combination of self-service and table ordered hot food. Self-service toast seems to cause more than its share of blackened disasters though! We ate dinner in the restaurant one evening and it was very good. Local langoustines to start and venison with raspberries for main course. All very classy. The bar is well stocked and a great way to end the evening. After a day out walking in October, returning to the welcoming hotel was a real treat. Nothing was too much trouble and we loved our stay.

“Old Fashioned Elegance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

We stayed at this hotel by chance and what a pleasant surprise. The staff bent over backwards to be courteous and helpful - the young receptionist carried our two heavy suitcases up the stairs to our room. Our room was delightful - high ceilinged and elegant with a view looking out over the sea to Eig, Rum and Skye. We enjoyed the excellent steak and ale pie in the pub for dinner and the breakfast in the beautiful dining room was the best we'd had while visiting the area (especially the kippers). We highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the sea - so beautiful.

“Nice welcome, tired rooms”

Stayed for one night enroute to Islands. I paid £50 for a tiny single bedded room on 2nd floor( didnt get my breakfast as I was leaving on the early ferry, 7am, and the hotel couldnt give me our breakfast that early) - bed comfortable enough and warm and clean- but decor needs to be smartened up. A hole was cut ouf the wall beside the bed and filled in with a bit of hardboard, for some reason- painted over, very ugly. Door locks need attention. Bathroom fine but tired. No mobile phone reception and there is no payphone on the premises. Receptionist said there was wifi but I couldnt find any sign of it- maybe it was the weather. No lifts but was offered a hand with luggage if required
Plus side- reception very friendly and welcoming- large reception/bar area with ample seating. Probably wouldn't return at that price.

“Great shower, nice place to stay”

we really enjoyed our stay at the West Highland Hotel. It was the only real hotel we stayed in while touring the Highlands and Isle of Skye and we took full advantage of the spacious lounge overlooking the bay, hanging out there and eating a pub dinner. The kind of Scottish music (recorded) that I love was playing which greatly enhanced my experience. The owners and staff are friendly and we felt very comfortable there. The great water pressure in the shower was a welcome surprise in the morning, and breakfast was good too. We arrived by ferry and walked up the steep hill to the hotel dragging our luggage. We decided to take a taxi to the train station, but there wasn't one available in the morning so our gracious hostess drove the three of us to the station. Our whole experience at the West Highland Hotel was outstanding!
