“Lovely setting!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

Linkshouse is gorgeous with comfortable and clean bedrooms, a den and a glassed in porch to relax. The food was perfect and made to order. The owner was interested in our travel plans. I told her I was looking for my grandmother's childhood home. She got on the phone with her friends and within the hour we had some good ideas. The next day she had found the setting for us. Then when we were at our next B&B she phoned with more information. Barbara goes above and beyond! Thanks to her!

Room Tip: 2 rooms, one dbl bed & one kingsized

“Best B&B of our trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2011

We were travelling with our children (5 and 7) and had booked mostly family rooms across the country. But when we saw this lovely B&B, we wanted to stay there, even if it didn't have a family room. But what we got was even better: We had two rooms and a lovely guest lounge on the top floor, where we had our privacy and didn't disturb anyone!
AND we had the most lovely host you could imagine!
We loved the fudge and shortbread which was in our room with the tea-making facilities, but actually, we didn't need the kettle, as Barbara brought us fresh tea into the lounge, with more yummy biscuits!
She also reserved us a table for dinner and organised delicious sandwiches for lunch! Perfect! And the breakfast! Everything you could dream of!
And the lovely company! The kids loved telling her about our days and we enjoyed chatting and getting more ideas and information!
Wish we had had more time, but we will certainly be back - and then for more than 3 days, which just is nowhere near enough for the Orkneys!

“Utterly Charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

The main reason we picked this place was value for money but it was a real find. The photograph on the website did not do this place justice. We had just stayed in a very expensive hotel in Nairn the few nights before which had been double the price but nowhere near the standard of this delightful Bed and Breakfast. The owner was very friendly, welcoming and easy going. The room was very comfortable and homely with lovely Orkney products available. The breakfast was delicious with a great choice for even for the fussiest of eaters. It is set in quite an idyllic spot beside the sea, just a short walk from Earl's Palace and the Brough of Birsay. Would definitely stay here again.

“georgeous house, lovely area, perfect place to stay”

I cannot recommend this b&b highly enough, we absolutely loved it, its a beautiful edwardian house on the edge of Birsay, peaceful, romantic, there is a separate tv lounge for guests and a sunroom, I would love to visit again, the owner is very kind, considerate, and is a wonderful cook, this is the best place to stay in this area. It is a huge house and there is lots of privacy.

“great b&b”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2006

This is about 20 miles northwest of Kirkwall on Mainland, in one of the more remote and picturesque parts of Orkney. The tiny village used to be the capital, has an old church, a ruined palace, and an island with an iron age settlement which is reached on foot by causeway at low tide. The cliff hikes are superb, with lots of seabirds nesting.
Link House is pre 1st world war, solid, beautiful ocean views from the bedroom (and bathroom-the loo with a view!), as well as from the first floor conservatory. The breakfast is all you could hope for, guests eat together at the large family table. There's a great old library/sitting area upstairs and Allison and Edgar are knowledgable and helpful about hikes which start at the front door, the ancient sites which are all within driving distance, and local history.
There's a little store in the village and a teashop which shuts at 5, so you have to drive to eat out in the evening, but there's a couple of pubs and the Merkister hotel(good food and view over the loch) about half an hours drive away.
