“Horrendous experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We arrived on a Groupon voucher deal and were greeted by the proprietor (presumably). He informed us that he had had a horrendous time with Groupon guests who had taken the wine and chocolates and left without paying. We were given a family suite which was unacceptable as it had no en suite facilities, and the shared bathroom had no running hot water. The bath was streaked with grime and dirt, and a door could easily be opened onto the roof space with no safety barrier. Thank goodness we were not travelling with children. The wallpaper in the bedroom was held in place with sticky tape. The room was freezing cold thanks to the single glazed window which allowed the wind to blow in. The wine and chocolates we were entitled to were not present. I spoke to the proprietor who was unhelpful and rude. He offered an alternative room only if the couple who had booked it had not arrived by 7pm. However, they arrived at 8.30pm and were given their room even although he had promised it to us after 7pm.
I requested that he check the lack of hot water in the bathroom but he refused to come up the stairs.
On a more positive note, the waiting staff were very pleasant and the dinner was very good. After dinner when it became apparent we were not being moved, and there was still no hot water despite the proprietor saying that it had been sorted, we decided to leave. He refused to come and talk to us as we checked out, and left his very nice waitress to do it.
We will never return to this outdated, old fashioned and very badly managed establishment, where the only positives are the lovely staff. Highly unrecommended.

“GREAT STAFF! GREAT STAY!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

What can we say about this hotel apart from “GREAT”!!! We were trapped between the snow gates a couple of weeks ago having been on the road all day and after taking directions from the local Police still failed to get through to Aviemore.

Tired, hungry and lost the will to live we came across the Colquhonnie House Hotel at about 21:30 on a cold snowy Monday evening. As a last ditch attempt to find accommodation before heading to Aberdeen we came across this lovely place and as luck would have it they had a room for us. The staff where all fantastic, very friendly and wholly accommodating.

Paul the owner and his two wee dogs where the perfect host and nothing was too much trouble and I would say that they all went out of their way to make us both comfortable. Been in this area many times over the years and must have just passed it without realising but in future we will plan on staying here again to break our trips up and making use of the beautiful location and friendly staff.

Thank you to all the staff at the Colquhonnie House Hotel as you are a credit to the hotel industry and your local community!

See you soon

“Good Highlands Hotel - Great Deal with Groupon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

The pub was very nice and what you are looking for on a cold winter's night in the highlands - roaring fire, friendly bar staff, nice selection of beers on draft. Restaurant meals are good value and the hotel is in close proximity to skiing and other outdoor activities. Plenty of parking on site and the hotel is easy to find and sign posted off the main road. The manager was very friendly and we enjoyed our stay.

“Do not go if booked through Groupon!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

We arrived at the hotel on Sat 3rd Dec which we both had been looking forward to all week. We stood around for about 15 mins as there was no-one there to greet us even though we rung various bells and knocked on office doors. The owner finally arrived and seemed less than pleased that we were groupon customers. We were given a twin room even though a double had been booked. The room itself was freezing and the bathroom was like a deep freeze, it was a thought to have a shower but it transpired that there was no water anyway, not even in the sink!! We booked a table for dinner for 6.30, but on going for dinner was told there was no food available!! There was a curry and bingo night organised for regulars and that was the choice, but we would not be able to eat until 8 or possibly later. This totally spoiled the whole experience for us as the owner seemed more concerned with his bingo night than people staying at the hotel, we decided to leave and will never go back.
