“Nice pool and gardens, shame about the service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2007

We stayed here for 6 nights in August 2007. We chose the hotel based on their website and its location. With hindsight I think the website does not give a true reflection of this slightly run down hotel.

The hotel does look nice from the outside and is quite romantic looking. It still retains a certain charm from its heyday. The food is very good although we felt a little expensive compared to the rest of France. That said, this is the cote d'azur and everything seemed to be more expensive than usual.

The room was very basic and the bathroom was outdated although it was clean and a decent size. We were fortunate to have a room overlooking the gardens and the sea although we did not have a balcony. Other rooms were not so fortunate with views over the car park! We paid 144euros for the room per night.

The service, it has to be said, was very poor. With the exception of one or two helpful staff, the majority were unenthusiastic and on occasion quite rude. The staff lacked experience and for the mostpart were young. The bar was NEVER staffed and therefore it was impossible to get a drink unless you asked at the reception. This was also the same for the bar at the pool.

Overall, the pool and the gardens were what we will probably remember most from our stay. The pool is a good size and was well equipped with loungers and parasols. The pool area also benefitted from being very peaceful.

“Nice pool, reasonable price for that area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2006

We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights in the end of June 2006. We completely agreed with the review written by our member in Australia of Aug 12, 2005.

We booked a superior room of the pine side area on the first floor with a balcony. The room and bathroom were very small with ugly and dated furniture. The balcony was overlooking a tennis court and car park. We were extremely upset and if they did not change room for us, we would have left immediately. (Please take note that they do not refund you the deposit).

After a long discussion, they finally gave us a room on the same floor, Room 160, facing the seafront. We were charged as the same rate as the room we booked though the new room rate was cheaper. Out of desperation, we accepted.

The room was much bigger, airy with nicer furniture. It overlooked the beautiful garden and a little bit of the sea but most of the view was blocked by the palm tree in front. The bathroom was very big as it was intended for disabled person. You had to wipe the floor dry everytime you used the shower as there was no shower curtain or door.

The breakfast was nice. Apart from the restuarant manager, the other catering staff were inexperienced though they did try hard. The breakfast room was situated in a big terrace but it could be better if the management bother to arrange the tables in a better way. It looked disorganised.

The swimming pool was nice and big. The garden was half finished and the finished part was very nice and done with good taste.

Most of the hotel staff were inexperienced, disorganised and some were not even very friendly. There was no body in the bar area, so if you need a drink you had to ask the receptionist and then she had to tell the restaurant staff. The reception area was nice and charming though it was a bit dated.

We had a dinner there once as it boosted of a good chef with creative new ideas. The menu sounded interesting and creative but the food was a disappointment and the chef could not deliver what he said.

If you want to just spend some time in the pool, read a bit at the reception area and go to some nice beaches nearby (not the one down the road as it was overcrowded and full of tourist shops), it was fine as the price was okay for that area but make sure to the rooms facing the sea.

“Grand Old Lady - showing her age”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2005

We spent a warm late afternoon/evening here in early June. This hotel isdescribed on websites as being "elegant Belle Époque style". This grand old lady has seen better days. The entrance steps and door are rather shabby but once inside the air-conditioned Reception/Lounge/Bar area it has a definite charm. These areas were spacious and attractive especially the bar. The pleasant Reception staff spoke little English but were helpful with an extra pillow after resorting to our phrase book. The hotel was easy to locate and we drove there from Toulon (39Km).

We had booked via the Internet requesting a 'seaside room with balcony' as this was our first look at the Med and we wanted to savor it. Our room on an upper floor (there is a lift/elevator in this large hotel) did not present as nicely as the web shots portray but was spacious and clean. The bathroom was old fashioned and large. Our balcony had two chairs, a drop down table and a good view of the bay- just as we had hoped. The air-conditioning (unlike the Reception area) appeared not to cool the air only blow it around - perhaps not considered too essential early in the summer?

The room charge was 131e and unlike all our other Internet hotel bookings we paid for it immediately on booking in early May (no refund available) so be sure of your travel plans.

The hotel is well located only 100M from the beach and tourist office. The 'park like grounds' were a big disappointment and not 'park like' at all. They were however refurbishing some parts of the grounds so they may be more attractive soon. There was a large swimming pool. There was adequate parking near the hotel.
