“Great View, Horrible Value”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2009

My husband and I stayed one night at the Grand Hotel Lecques. On the positive side, the view from our front-facing balcony was beautiful. However, that was the only positive of our stay. The room was very out-dated and questionably clean. The bathroom had very old fixtures which is OK, but not when they are rusty / moldy. The lowlight of the stay was the breakfast. We arrived 45 minutes before breakfast closed and were greeted by a buffett with no cups or plates, cold coffee, a moldy fruit basket, 1 mini-croissant, no rolls and an egg-boiler too low on water to boil eggs. Furthermore, the waitstaff was uninterested in and unresponsive to our requests for assistance. 130-euro a night (price included 25 euro for our breakfast) is a steep price for such low quality.

“Just terrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2009

In one word: terrible. The website looks wonderful, location is great. But then, the drive up the alley to the hotel should have already warned us. It didn't get better...
We were given a room that was upper range (Euro 155 per night). What can I say, only a heavy renovation would make the room acceptable: dirty, old, cobwebs, ancient shower, no noise-insulation, tired furniture. We didn't take off our shoes! The pool, didn't want to try it. Dinner was a no-no, as the restaurant refused to serve us! Breakfast was not must better. We were happy to leave after just 1 night.
Apparently the hotel is being renovated, however all the rooms, renovated or not, are charged at the same price. We complained, the hotel was clearly embarrassed and finally agreed to a discount.
This hotel has a lot of potential, it must of once been very majestic. What a shame that they didn't bother keeping it in it's original state

“disapointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2009

We had a lovely stay the last time we stayed there, 5 years ago ,nice and professional staff, wonderful food we actually stayed longer. On our 2nd visit we were unable to eat there as the hotel was so busy. so this time we booked half board.Everything went wrong from the start and although the management was generous enough by offering a free night , we still expected a certain amount of service.
The mini bar was empty.- the gourmet dinner was awful and lazy. smoked salmon and blinis, served with no blinis, the lamb "gigot" ( dry ),no vegetables , and the fresh fruit salad were obviously cooked and prepared a long time ahead, it showed and tasted like it.. the staff were generally uncaring .The rooms and bathroom are old and in need of updating. This a great shame as the hotel is in a lovely location and has great potential.t

“Grand Hotel des Lecques - faded inelegance”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2008

We stayed at the Grand Hotel de Lecques for one night in early July. Having loked at the website and seen the brochure from marketing group that it obviously belongs to, it looked fantastic: sea view; grand gardens; a gastronomique restaurant.......
The reality was a bit different. Our room was clean, but extremely jaded, and I really object to having to sleep in twin beds (no option.) The bathroom was as clean as it could be given that the fittings were so old. (ie tired mouldy grouting)
The hotel did appear to have good sports facilities - a pool, tennis and boules courts.
The reception areas were far too small for a hotel with this many rooms (the Wales XV would barely have fitted into the bar!)
However our main grumble is associated with being led up the jardin path with regards to the restaurant. The dinner menu at 35 euros was bland in the extreme and so unexciting that we decided on a seafront wander that offered better options. Breakfast was indescribably awful - awful value at 14 euros - and generally awful at any price. Lukewarm coffee from vacuum flasks, no service whatsoever, tinned fruit salad ... I could go on and on and on. One can only conclude that the restaurant management had been trained in a British seaside resort in the 1960's.
Belle epoque - non. Faded empire - oui. (To be continued with the marketing group that this hotel is part of ....)

“Nice pool and gardens, shame about the service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2007

We stayed here for 6 nights in August 2007. We chose the hotel based on their website and its location. With hindsight I think the website does not give a true reflection of this slightly run down hotel.

The hotel does look nice from the outside and is quite romantic looking. It still retains a certain charm from its heyday. The food is very good although we felt a little expensive compared to the rest of France. That said, this is the cote d'azur and everything seemed to be more expensive than usual.

The room was very basic and the bathroom was outdated although it was clean and a decent size. We were fortunate to have a room overlooking the gardens and the sea although we did not have a balcony. Other rooms were not so fortunate with views over the car park! We paid 144euros for the room per night.

The service, it has to be said, was very poor. With the exception of one or two helpful staff, the majority were unenthusiastic and on occasion quite rude. The staff lacked experience and for the mostpart were young. The bar was NEVER staffed and therefore it was impossible to get a drink unless you asked at the reception. This was also the same for the bar at the pool.

Overall, the pool and the gardens were what we will probably remember most from our stay. The pool is a good size and was well equipped with loungers and parasols. The pool area also benefitted from being very peaceful.
