we managed to get into this hotel at the last minute on a French bank holiday, and opted to change rooms after two nights rather than leave the area and the location of the hotel, both of which were thoroughly gorgeous!! We stayed in a standard room, then a loggia.
Standard room - in a part of the hotel in which communal areas were filthy - heavily stained carpets in corridiors, chipped paint, sofas & cushions stained and worn (we're not fussy - have lived in student halls of residence, hostels etc..This surpassed many of them)
Room itself was relatively clean and bright; seaside guest-house feel, jolly matching white curtains and bedspreads with patterns of lighthouses and fishes etc on; a comfortable double bed (albeit with sheets and blankets) and a bath. Great outlook over the rocky beach and a tiny balcony with 2 chairs and table. After a bit of a fight with the sliding doors you could leave these open all night and enjoy the sound of the sea...There was some damp mould on the walls, but very adequate storage cupboards and a nice feel to the place.
Sadly for the 2 nights we occupied this room we were awakened in the early hours by the arrival of a refrigeration lorry which arrived with a large cargo for delivery via an entrance which seemed to be under our room and which made one hell of a racket as the driver repeatedly threw crates onto a trolley device and cranked various things up and down.. We lost a good hour's sleep each night, no aircon so could not shut the window.
Loggia room ( this is the one pictured in the websites, not the 'standard' - big difference! Smaller room than the standard, but considerably more expensive. Very cosy, trendy and attractive decor - a 'sea' theme with lovely warm browns, greens oranges and whites. Big, twin matress bed made in heaven - upgraded also to duvets and lots of cushions. Long 'sunbathing' balcony with beds overlooking the sailing club so constant things to watch. however lowish walls meant there was little privacy. No early hours disturbances on this side of the hotel - a better nights sleep all round, and communal area much better presented.
However compact design meant compromises on storage space - the cupboard was too small to accomodate a standard suitcase and the (sliding) door of this was shared with the bathroom- ie if you wanted the bathroom door shut it was necessary to slide it off the front of the cupboard. Very compact bathroom, no bath only shower and very limited space around basin. No lock on the bathroom door, and the room was enclosed only by frosted glass. Again, no aircon.
overall, staff very friendly and helpful, ample storage for our bikes and free parking at the front of the hotel. Free wifi and good seafood. A nice cheerful atmosphere but with some serious practical shortcomings.
(whatever, avoid the bar creperie st Gildas next along the street. They do great ice creams in the day, but we paid over 9 euro for a scallop shell (sold as a main course..)containing possibly two sliced St Jacques, certainly no more. The cheese sauce was fab and there was a chopped mushroom mixed in but nothing else apart from one or two salad leaves garnishing - no bread, potatoes rice etc. Not quite what was needed after a day cycling - we felt unhappy and 'ripped off' as tourists, and went back to the Flotille for dessert!!)
