“Relaxing break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2010

As with the other reviews we all found the welcome and demenour of our host second to none. Situated in the Loir valley it is definitely worth seeing some of the area and you really don't need to travel far to be deep in the countryside. If we were making the trip down again i would probably fly into a local airport then hire a car, as this would be much easier that the trip from Paris we opted for.
The hotel is a mixture of rooms and apartments, i would personally plumb for the Roi d'arthur as ths was very well appointed and spacious. Unlike a chain hotel you need to approach with a much more open mind and enjoy the slight eccentricities, this will lead to a very enjoyable stay.
As you'd expect in France lot's of choices on where to eat, but if you do need to eat in, then the appartments have kitchens with hobs, ovens, grill and mircrowaves so you have all the options available.
Thoroughly enjoyable would definitely recommend.

“An idylic and historical Chateau with a wonderfully friendly owner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

Claude, the charming and charasmatic owner, greeted us warmly on arrival and it was lovely to be offered an aperitif after such a long journey. He really makes you feel like you are a special friend staying in his home. The Chateau is full of history and character , we were welcome to come and go as we pleased. The room, Roi d'Arthur, was really a spacious apartment with everything you could need.It was a lovely touch to bring up logs in case we wanted a fire. The gardens were well tended, it's just a pity the weather was too cool to enjoy the pool.Breakfast was varied ( pastries, bread, homemade jams, eggs, fruit etc) and lovely each day- Claude even cooked us an omellette.A visit to the labyrinth is a must..The setting was very peaceful, but with plenty of great restaurants within an easy drive. The village has wineries, a Chateau, a glass maker and is within an hour of major sites such as Le Mans, Tours,Amboise & Chenoceau. It's a great place to relax off the beaten track. What makes this place really special is it's owner Claude who is so passionate and knowledgeable about the area and the history of his home.Gilda,Gerard and everyone we met at Claude's home could not have been kinder or more helpful. If you are looking to get away from it all and love history this is the place for you.

“Five out of five for everything?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

Our holiday is over, we returned to London last night. Why then decide to revisit the tripadvisor site to read reviews about a destination that we had already visited?

I know why, for the enjoyment of listening to people describe their reactions to Chateau de la Voloniere and its owner and most hospitable host, Claude.

How would you fit into the scale of response, would you be one of those who award it a one star for terrible, or like us, would you be tempted to award the Chateau a five out of five for everything, even for cleanliness, even though we did find a cockroach in the bathroom, and the toilet did rock everytime you (or rather I) sat on it?

A favourable impression is definatly enhanced for those who have a room at the front overlooking the park. Rooms at the back work best if they form part of a party booking.

What a lovely paradise we've been to! a beautifull garden with an amazing pool, great appartment in a lovely castle with lots of secrets.. But, most of all, the best host ever, chapeau for Claude! After a two-weeks stay it was hard to leave this place, looked as we left our family behind...
