“A perfect place to stay in a secret paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

We had heard that the Gers was the best-kept secret in France, and it is. Hardly a postcard to be found. Just gorgeous, never-ending countryside of sunflowers, rivers, vineyards, old villages, hilltop estates, and quiet sky-- all against the backdrop of the distant Pyrenees.
Les Chenes Verts is also a secret gem, a lovely 17th c. farmhouse estate that has been beautifully restored to pamper four sets of guests with everything one could want in a rural setting. Beautiful fresh breakfasts served in the summer dining area that looks out over the vineyards, a lovely pool with the same view, gorgeous bedrooms with the most comfortable bathrooms we've ever had in France, excellent beds and linens-- all are presided over by a warm and helpful English couple who will make your reservations, guide you with conversation, maps, and books, and match your enthusiasm for their home with their own. They will even prepare a table d'hotes for you the evening you arrive so that you and they can sit down together.
The other guests we met had all been here before, returning once a year for the perfect calm and beauty of the region and the excellent but reasonable restaurants in nearby villages. Two sets of guests return every year for the nearby music festivals, one come every year for a week of hiking in the vineyards and nearby mountains. And we loved visiting the bastides that sprinkle the countryside, eating a creperie dinner one evening at sunset inside the tiny, magical, medieval castle keep of Larresingle while we watched a falconry exhibition. As far from big city life as one could get.

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful.

“An hidden gem in Gascogne”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011

The "chenes" bed and breakfast is just a secret place in Gascogne..Julie Ann and Piers are outstanding hosts and everything is perfect from the bedroom to the delightful breakfast served by the pool. Garden is well maintain as are all the grounds and the flagrances of lavender that wakes you up every morning don't want you to leave this quaint place.

“A Fantastic find!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

We booked into Les Chenes Vertsfor 3 days whilst visiting friends in the area. We were warmly welcomed by Julie-Ann & shown to our immaculately presented room 'Les Acasias' Split over 2 floors with the bedroom on the upper mezannine & the lounge. Bathroom & seperate WC on the ground floor. The bathroom & WC have recently been refurbished to a very high modern standard as have all the other bathrooms in the house. We arrived on a Sunday & were lucky enough to be able to share an evening meal with Julie-Ann & her husband Piers who does the cooking (to a very high standard) The option of the evening meal is, i think, only available on the first night of your stay & at €25 per head & around€15 for a bottle of local wine it represents fantastic value.
Breakfast is served either on the covered terrace by the pool or in the dining room if its inclement as when we were there.Fresh bread & croissants with home made jams & the usual cereals etc were delightful.
We cannot praise Julie-Ann & Piers enough. They have turned there delightful Gasgoine farmhouse into a wonderful Chambre-d'hote & are marvellous hosts & we will certainly be returning on our next trip through this lovely part if France.

“It is a pleasure to stay here - we will keep coming back”

We have stayed at Les Chenes Verts de Gascogne on 3 separate occasions and each time we have been delighted with the accommodation and the calm, friendly efficiency of the hosts, Julie Ann and Piers.

We have been particularly impressed with the comfort and cleanliness of the house, where every attention to detail has been made - such as the quality bed linen and towels (and the extra large separate towels for the swimming pool) and complementary water in the bedrooms. The house itself is a sympathetically renovated farmhouse with generous sized rooms and great bathrooms that have been beautifully designed and furnished.

Breakfasts are generous, with breads, pastries, cereals and fresh fruit and on the occasions that we have had supper, these have been excellent, served in the terrace overlooking the garden.

We have enjoyed the company of guests from all over France and the rest of Europe, and Piers and Julie-Ann speak both French and English.

The house is set in lovely countryside and it is the perfect retreat for anyone looking to soak up the atmosphere of this beautiful part of France.

“Lovely b&b with lovely hosts”

Having searched long and hard for a veggy friendly b&b I stumbled across this website. As it turned out the whole experience of staying at this lovely chambre d'hote was fantastic. The rooms were beautifully restored with 5 star bathrooms and beautiful bedding. The night we arrived we were served a wonderful candlelit meal in the garden with our fellow guests. The pool area looks out over a vineyard striped valley and is a wonderful place to while away an afternoon or two.
All in all, we couldn't have been more welcomed or more comfortable. A real gem in a beautfil and unspoilt part of france.
