“Modern Luxury meets Medieval Adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

What a wonderful place to stay! My mother and I drove into Sedan late at night, looking for the hotel. It took us a few moments to realize that the large castle we were skirting WAS our hotel! We made our way through the entrance which includes a cobblestoned tunnel, and into the big courtyard in front of the ancient chateau nestled in the interior of the battlements with our jaws dropped. Even in the dark we were astounded... THIS is where we're staying?? Holy Cats!

We were enchanted. The room was very comfortable, the beds were perfect, the staff were very accommodating... Our room included breakfast every morning and dinner one of the nights. It was all excellent and I'd highly recommend visitors to have a meal at least one evening in the hotel. We also ate in Sedan based on the recommendations of the staff and were not disappointed.

Don't miss the self-guided tour of the fort! It's well done and takes you both in and outside of the structure, so pick a day when it's not cold, windy and raining (unlike the day we picked... but it was still enjoyable.) Make sure you schedule enough time to visit the shop at the end of the tour as it includes many locally-made foods and crafts.

Room Tip: We were delighted with the traditional room. I don't think you can go wrong here.

“Your car's pretty safe...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

... inside the walls of this castle. Truly felt special staying in a small suite (two-floor set-up), clean, comfortable, enough room, good bathroom. The hotel was said to have a good restaurant, however, in France we tend to avoid "good" restaurant at all costs, so cannot say anything about that.

“Nothing like it!”

There is nothing like staying in a huge medieval fort that has existed since the 13th century; that alone was pretty mind blowing. But the fact that we were able to sleep comfortably in our lovely rooms makes me happy to recommend this place to anyone! It adds all the modernity we need for today without sacrificing the authentic medieval feel to make this stay extra special.

We had a traditional room, which was spacious, modern and clean. LCD TV, large desk, closet to organize your things, everything you need in a room its there. As our stay was in winter, we found the temperature to be very comfortable.

Breakfast was fantastic. Their croissants were divine and the baguettes were delicious. They also had eggs, bacon, cheeses, yogurts, special preserves and juices from the region amongst other things.

I had dinner at the restaurant, like the reviewer below, i also had a package which included dinner. But I was not stuck in a separate room, I was in a lovely room at a nice table, and dinner was delicious. I had a squash/scallop type soup that was one of the best things I've ever tasted in my life!

The hotel is well located and it's imposing walls are well lit at night and easy to spot. It's in the centre of small town (Sedan) where the fort itself is the big attraction. Indeed, the tour was very interesting. GPS was necessary for us to find the place. It's also under half hour drive from Bouillan, Belgium, which is another highly recommended town to visit. With a car, it's a great base to explore the Ardennes region.

Service was pretty good. Staff is nice and professional. Tourism office was just outside the fort walls so any information that the reception didn't have was just a 5 minute walk away.

“Nice medieval experience!”

A real adventure to stay for a weekend in Europe's biggest fortress!
Great hotel, but the restaurant is a bit too small for the amount of rooms, so we had a delicious dinner in town at La Ronde Des Sens - a real treat!
The historical exhibition of the fortress lets you roam you the old buildings and gives a good idea what life was like centuries ago. The town itself is a bit unattractive, but lots of forests in the surrounding to go for a hike.

“Dissapointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

Watch out if you take a package here.

We had an Emotion package in junior suite incl 3 course dinner and tour around castle.
The location is impressive and the tour was interesting.
But the rest was very dissapointing:
- as a package holder for dinner we were placed in a seperate room in the restaurant which was small and cold
- the confirmation email said we'd get dinner with drinks but according to the restaurant the drinks were excluded
- the service was terrible - unclear, slow and ignorent
- our bathroom was not clean (mildew, insects)
- our matrasses were covered with some sort of plastic and therefore slept very uncomfortable

Reception did their best to apology - the wine was taken of our bill but unfotunately this could not change the whole impression...
