I have never left a review on the internet before but in this case I just had to. We have now stayed in 3 hotels in Langres, it is a very convenient halfway stop from the alps. I tried to book at the Cheval Blanc but it was full (he rooms in the main hotel here are excellent, and they also have some good but not so smart family rooms in their annexe). I was faced wit the wrath of my wife for not having booked sooner and in a googled frenzy I found Hotel de la Poste. They had what they called an appartment (really just three rooms connected) to sleep 8 (4 double beds), we are a family of 6 so 2 of the children had their own beds. I booked it without thinking much more. On our way to Langres the traffic was bad and we were going to arrive later than I had told the hotel, so I thought that I should ring and warn them. I couldnt find their number in the car so I used my phone to google them (I should mention that my wife was driving at this point). I rang them and just as when I had originally booked the receptionist was absolutely charming. Bored after several hoursin the car I then started to open some of the reviews. My heart sank. It sounded awful. When we arrived the receptionist was very pleasant, and yes we did ave to pay an extra 6 Eros for off road parking, but that is the same at Cheval Blanc and Grand Hotel Europe. We were just pointed in the direction of our room but I didnt feel tht this was strange. The hotel seemd very nice and clean if a little quirky, but I still expected a grotty room. To my relief it was actually really nice, recenly renovated (in fact I think that they are in the process of renovating the last of their rooms at the moment). It is not all perfect, that is part of its charm, the building is centuries old, it is a wonderful slice of provincial France with lovely old furniture. I should also mention the dogs - when I read one of the earlier reviews I imagined the fierce German Sepherd type of French dog, but on my return froom the car park I was greeted at the back door by three perfectly coiffed wiggly little fluffy dogs, all they needed were bows in their hair! Charming. Breakfast too was better than many I have had in France, for 8 euros I thought that it was a bargain. I have stayed in some dreadful French hotels, this is not one of them, dont be detered.
