Just got back (11th Aug 2010) from a great relaxing holiday at Hotel Bellevue. Reviews are mixed but I can tell you that the rooms are basic but good, food is plentiful and we always had enough to eat. We went half board with Balkan Holidays who were most helpful with advice and picking which excursions to take. The downside for me was EasyJet, we were delayed going out and coming back, once on the plane the staff are very good indeed but for some reason they just will not inform you what is going on at the airports. What's weird is the passengers just accept it..oh well that's EasyJet. If you do decide to fly EasyJet make sure you pay the extra £25.00 per person for "speedy boarding". It means you get on the plane first which avoids the scrum for seats.
The weather was in the high 80's both weeks which was fantastic, it seemed to get a bit windy in the afternoon most days but by then we were glad of the welcome relief. The sea is beautiful and clear, warm once you get used to it, the beaches are all pebbly so bring those jelly shoes. We found a cafe about 200m from the hotel (down the steps, turn right) which had its own sunbeds which were free and of course very convenient for food/drinks. The chef there is really good, only a few items on the menu but worth it for value and taste.
The hotel staff were very helpful and speak a multitude of languages, we booked a sea view room with balcony and unfortunately got a tree view room. We tried to change but no others were available. I would say out of all the sea view rooms, only 107 and 108 have a tree in the way but we did book late.
There is a mix of nationalities, very few English which we were very happy about, a few Germans, some French but mostly Italian and Croation. The previous comments about the pool and sunbeds are correct, mostly reserved with towels although if you are that interested in getting a spot by the pool, watch for the change over days as that releases space. Pool is very busy but that provided our entertainment whilst relaxing with a Prossec (pronounced prozzec which is a Croation form of sherry) before dinner.
Dinner is or can be a bit of a bun fight, but the doors open at 1900hrs in the evening which is the very busy time. Avoid that and you'll be fine. There is free beer and wine with the evening meal which was a nice bonus. Food is plentiful but hey..this is a three star hotel, we were more than happy with it.
Overall, look for the best of everything rather than the worst, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, nice thing about this hotel is the fact that it's on the edge of Orebic, so was fairly peaceful, if you want action, wander in to town of an evening.
Transfer time is 2hrs from Dubrovnic, excursions are excellent, worth a go.
