“A nice base”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We liked the calm atmosphere, the nice pool and the friendly staff. The restaurant was mediocre, but the place was just what we needed after our trips to the many nearby ruins.

The rooms are splendid. We especially enjoyed that the remain cool and ventilated without the noisy air conditioning that other less well constructed places resort to.

The Eco concept could have been more consequent, we would have liked organic food etc.

But we loved the silence that a low consumption approach gave!

“Pricey but close to the ruins”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

Beautiful location if you like nature and archaeology . Nice terrace and room. Very unhelpful and weird receptionist. When we arrived the hotel was empty. After 1 hr a group of 20 noisy Germans arrived and they put them next door. They got up at 5 o'clock AM and they woke us up!!! Also a bit pricey.

“Not so nice”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

Don't expact to much. The people who work in Eco Village looked bored and that says enough. The place is not in good shape well they try with à new swimmingpool but that's it. The room is okay with no airco. We stayed here one night and that was more than enough

“A perfect place to stay on the way to (or from) Calakmul”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

We stayed here only one night on the way to Calakmul and after a long but rewarding day visiting the local ruins. It was exactly what the doctor ordered. Very nice rooms, a lovely balcony, new pool and close enough to the entrance of Calakmul to make the trip fairly easy. The only negative comment is that the food was pretty mediocre. But, we were so happy to have a relaxing oasis, that it wasn't too disappointing. If you are going to the ruins early in the morning, ask for the picnic lunch. Just what we needed after a long day in the jungle.

“Disappointed, but a nice concept”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

We arrived down a very bumpy dirt road to the resort, which was very quiet (we saw no other people) and seemed like it was only half-heartedly operating. The pool, which was small, was univiting with leaves floating everywhere and a run-down appearance. The staff were friendly which was a nice welcome and clearly an 'eco' concept had been applied to the buildings, the water usage and the electricity. Unfortunately the basics had been overlooked - the room did not have A/C which is a must in the dense tropical area, and when we asked for a fan so that we could sleep comfortably the staff seemed surprised that we needed one and struggled to find us one. The rooms are quite dark and the lighting isn't bright enough.

The little balcony area outside each room was relaxing and comfortable, but the wooden steps and the tiles used on the paths around the site were very very slippery when it rained (which was everyday in the season we were travelling). We ate in the resteraunt once, as the place is a little out of the way of the town and we didn't feel like venturing out. The food was a little expensive and didn't seem very fresh, which was disappointing, but again the staff were attentive and friendly. I struggle to see how this is a resort and it was a disappointing visit, but it has so much potential to be an excellent place with some more attention to the basics.
