Back in the days of way back when, our first ever stay in Matlock Bath was at The Fountain Villa. It was Jerry the proprieter's suggestion that we try The Ashdale next door when Fountain Villa was full one week long ago, and it was Lindy of The Ashdale who suggested that we try FV this time as they themselves were full.
Greeted at the door by Jerry, it was like taking a lushious step back in time - literally!
The Fountain Villa will not be to everyones taste - in fact the first time we stopped there, we wondered if we had stepped into a time-capsule. Its only after an hour of working out how a mixture of modern and antique can actually work together, and then constantly finding new decor, paintings and posters, that you realise its worth a little persistance to realise this establishment's true potential.
The breakfasts were up to their usual impeccable standard, but we did miss the Kit-Kats - luckily we found a supply of these at a local pub!
Fountain Villa will NOT suit those who want a regular sized and shaped Travel-Inn type room with a cloned breakfast.
It WILL suit those that have the desire to step back into the past and spend a few hours trying to discover all the hidden treasures in your room, the hallways, and in the sitting room and dining room.
So you might need to extend your stay by one day to explore the hotel itself!
