I won a weekend on ebay so at least it was cheap. There was problems with the booking but I went with an open mind and thought that I wasn't going to let those difficulties spoil the weekend. We arrived at the pre-arranged time but couldn't get any one to answer the door, the greeting was very brief with no welcome.
The room we had was in the attic it was quite dark (due to walls painted aubergine purple) but had plenty of room.
The bed was very comfy and the best bit about the stay. The bedding was nice, the towels just a bath towel - too small 4 me I use bath sheets at home and there was no hand towel. The shower room was positively chlostraphobic, really cramped and dark, no fan so no air circulation at all. The loo was the shredder type and so really noisy.
Breakfast was basic but edible, no one to greet you and the only words spoken to us was do you want tea or coffee. We were only given 1 piece of toast each and considering the breakfast was 1 slice bacon 1 sausage beans and tinned toms it wasn't too much to expect to be asked if we needed anything else.
On the second morning I asked for use of the hairdryer but was told there wasn't one in the house???????????? This defied belief but hey it takes all sorts. The owner demands that you check out by 10am so was shocked to find everything all locked up when we came down at 5 past to hand keys in. After knocking twice the door opened we offered the keys, they were grabbed and we received a one word greeting before the door was promtly shut in our face.
Not only was this guest house run by people who were rude, had no inter-personal skills and ignorant to boot, this final event on a really poor weekend made me decide to leave this comment. I have never left reviews neither good nor bad I always leave people to make their own minds up. So if you think this reviews is a result of sour milk it is. The frosty interaction between owner and client was positively antarctic i have chosen not to be personal because the facts speak for themselves. If it is value you want go ahead and book but the extra you pay for en-suite simply isn't worth it because it is so cramped its easier to use the private bathroom on the second landing.

Firstly we would like to address the negative points stated in this review.
The problems with bookings that they describe were as follows; The weekend that they won was not advertised for a bank holiday and the days they wanted would have run into the bank holiday monday that we had already received bookings for. The guests also asumed that they could have had the bank holiday monday for the same price they payed on Ebay. (a fraction of the bank holiday price)
We do run a Guesthouse and we can be busy in other areas of the house during the times we are waiting for guests, On this occasion we were out in the yard for a short period and got to the front door as soon as we could. Upon greeting the couple and appologising for not getting to the door sooner we were met with hostility and attitude, not really a good start for a pleasant weekend.
Secondly the room they booked was the King Size Four Poster Bedroom, situated on the third floor of a three story victorian house, also decorated to match the period with heritage paint, (maybe they would have preffered neutral decoration). There are two En Suite rooms on the third floor as well as a door at the end of the corridor leading to a balcony, not possible if this floor was an attic. Therefore this is a blatant lie and slanderous. The attic is still there above those two rooms.
The towels are from Debenhams and Laura Ashley, we supply a suitable amount of towels for any guests staying and we are happy to supply extra when or if required.
For breakfast we offer a Full English, a range of different cerials, Tea, Coffee, plenty of toast and juices. And are always happy to give more if required. also placed in every room is an information sheet mentioning if you require any alternative breakfast we are happy to arrange that.
Unfortunatly we do not offer a hair dryer and do not advertise that we do.
We do politely ask our guests to vacate the room by 10am so we can turn the rooms round for the next guests that we expect to arrive at 12pm, we don't consider this to be unreasonable and we most certainly do not 'demand' this.
We should address that our inter-personal skills after years of being in this business and also before this, working as a nurse in the NHS for 15 years are most certainly not rude or ignorant.
As the guests mentioned in the review, it was down to sour milk and we would have appreciated it if they'd have left their attitude at home, yes they're right it does take all sorts.
WE WELCOME ANY INSPECTION OF OUR GUESTHOUSE BY ANYBODY AT ANY TIME.
if you would like more re-assurance please feel free to message previous guests that left the reviews.
We're more than happy not to get return custom from these rude and arrogant people.
Other guesthouse/B&B owners BEWARE.
We do not take slanderous comments and blatant lies lightly.
