I'd agree and disagree with some of the comments here previously. Why, for example, would anyone construct a restaurant with picture window views of the A1 Amsterdam to Apeldoorn motorway? There's no question, in a Dutch context, it's in a pretty area - woods and inevitably lots of cycling tracks which they cater for. But the rooms are functional, spacious but ultimately lacking in contemporary style. Totally agree about the lack of a bar area and a minibar in the room; sometimes we just need to have a beer and be sociable and then maybe we'll eat....not that there is a choice once you're here.
The restaurant is enormous, and so perhaps hints at what they are expecting - lots of passing traffic, the place filled with passing summer travellers; the menu has many 'senior specials', again a reason why one third of the tables were filled early evening. I'd describe the food as ordinairy. And never, ever in my life have I been served four, that's FOUR, different types of potatoes with dinner; French fries, jacket potato, boiled skin-on potatoes and roesti. Please, I know there's a recession on, and spuds are cheap, but a little more imagination please! And no inquiry, like in Belgium, how I'd like my steak done. A large piece of meat arrived with more pink that I would have liked.
No complaints about the front desk service, friendly also in the restaurant.
And here's the irony: in the land of excellent 'fritjes' here they were 'vreselijk'. Soggy, tired, flavourless - so unappetesing I didn't finish them.
