I had booked and rebooked this reservation about six times so when we finally arrived I expected snarky looks and a room over the trash compactor. Instead I was greated like a beloved but whimsical family member. "You have come at last:!" .
So this is where it is: carved into a cliff overlooking the sea. Three pools although I found it hard to leave my lounge next to the olympic sized infinity pool that is the centerpiece of the hotel so I cannot comment on the other two.
My husband has mobilty issues and they had arranged a room where he could be comfortable without feeling as though he came off the "short bus". Our accommodations were superb. A huge room, sitting area and bath. Seriously; for Europe, it was the bridal suite. Tile floors, great linens, every room overlooking the sea, and an enclosed patio.
I would take the jitney (complementary) into Amalfi to shop at the market for cheese, olive oil, sausage and tomatoes and such wonderful bread and we would feast on our patio. If we wanted lunch elsewhere we would wander onto the patio over the sea for lobster salads, fresh pastas or things involving octopui if you are brave. Red was.
I know; I am gushing but I have never written a review on this or any other site but felt compelled to do so after such a magnificent experience. Trust me, I have standards and astonishingly, Furore Innexceeded expectations.
Here's an interesting thing: Now this is a medium sized hotel but somehow it is laid out so you feel it's "your place"; just yours. Yet the hotel was full. We only met the other guests, mostly European, when we chose to. And when we chose to be sociable we had a spacious patio to sit on over looking the sea with waiters with wonderful wines and hors d oeuvres. What I'm trying to say is this: if you wanted company, it was available. If you wanted to Garbo it, that worked too,
And of course, Amalfi, Positano, Capri were a moment away thanks to the jitney. We enjoyed them all was happy each night to come "home",
One last thing and I will risk your thinking I own the hotel and am trying to drum up business. The restaurant! Five star and worth every star. We ate every meal there but I know one is supposed to suggest improvements; it might have been nice to have a joint nearby. Perhaps they should pass out a list of nearby places for a variety of meals should you be bored and want to experiment. We were not.
One last thing: the people who make it all work. the hotel manager is there most days; each person at the desk knows your name and is eager to help. I didn't see the support staff as they did wonderful things in our room or with arrangements that I did not have an opportunity to acknowledge. My husband and I have traveled the world. This is our new home away from home.
My adivice? Go there. ASAP Say Red and Millee sent you. We cannot wait to get back.
