Stayed one night in this authentic little pension. Location fabulous - in old town not far from shops etc. Room very basic - beds and basin. Shared bathroom and toilet. Unfortunately it was warm in the room so had to leave windows open - got very little sleep because of mosquitoes, dogs barking and aeroplanes overhead. My friends in another room had a fan so did not experience a lack of sleep. Be warned - make sure you have a fan in your room. Breakfast was basic.

On our two week trip, the first interntional flight was cancelled and we had to reschedule our entire trip. I called 10 days before the reservation and she still wanted to charge half of the hotel charge. If I cancelled one or two days before hand I would understand, this just seemed dishonest.

We stayed 3 nights in early October at the start of a tour of Rhodes, Symi and Turkey. We enjoyed our stay so much that we returned 2 weeks later for a further 2 nights to end our mini-tour. Mari, the owner, seems fluent in Greek, Italian, English and French so was able to help us a lot with recommendations where to eat, bus services, beaches etc. Weather was excellent for October making breakfast on the terrace and sea swimming a real treat.

The Pink Elephant was my favorite pension from all my travels through Greece. The owner is welcoming and helpful, full of information about the city, and quick to offer any help needed. She recommended a great restaurant and a wonderful pastry shop in southern New Town, where the Greeks actually live! Breakfast was included with yogurt, honey, fruit, bread, and coffee/tea but the best part was that it was served in the quiet pension courtyard with pots of gardenia around. Although there's no internet provided, we found free wireless from the rooftop and spent many an evening there looking out over the domes, minarets, and castle walls of the city.

The pension is located in Old Town on a quiet cobblestone street with bougainvillea. Although Old Town can get quiet busy with touts and souvenir shops, you can escape from this bustle by going one block to the Pink Elephant! Also, most of the other tourists are only there between 10:00-10:00, and when you stay in Old Town, you can go out whenever you like!

Although our room was small and got hot during the day, it was very clean. (I walked in while they were cleaning the room one day, and she were scrubbing the shower walls!) We paid 50 euros a night, and although it was a little pricy for our budget, it was well worth it!
