well, we arrived in rhodes about midday, having opted for a taxi when we landed it was a bit annoying to find the taxis on strike that week. we then set off on the bus to rhodes town, after a bit of wandering round the airport not entirely sure what to do. when we got to rhodes town, we eventually got a bus to faliraki.(the bus was 2.40 euros from airport to rhodes town, and 2.20 euros rhodes town to faliraki, so actually very reasonable.I would be happy to do this again, it just came as a bit of a surprise at first as i didnt know where i was going. anyway, into faliraki, finally, at about 3pm. and i stepped off the coach and the heat nearly knocked me over..haha. it was a nice change from the uk, and being from south america, im familiar with heat, but I was still dressed to suit the rainy morning i had left behind in Liverpool.
So there we were, in the middle of faliraki, trying to get directions to the hotel. (i didnt realise i could have got a bus from rhodes town to right outside the hotel at this point.) ,...let me tell you, that was the most unpleasant walk i had ever done in my life, it felt like miles i was overheating, i had to carry my 10kg backpack, and i just wanted to curl up and die.ha but i perservered, and i'm glad i did.
we arrived at the hotel, sweating and annoyed, and despite having read bad reviews previously, i cant stress enough how nice and relaxed the hotel seemed. we were both immediately cheered up. We checked in with no fuss, and went upto our room, which was on the top floorabove the main entrance (I think a reviewer further down stayed in the exact same room after us) but anyway, it was a great room, you could see the pool area, and see right out over faliraki town and the beach in the distance. the room was clean, and well presented, so we quickly changed into our swimming gear and went and cooled off in the pool. The pool area was really nice, relaxed, and there was a good mix of people, all chilling out. The pool bar was well stocked, and there was plenty of places to sit or sunbathe. There was one bunch of fools diving about in the water, splashing everyone, and just being typically british but they went home the day after we arrived.
we ate at the poolside bar that evening and it was really good food. we went back there a few times in the week as it was so convenient and so reasonable with good quality, tasty food.
there was a couple of nearby supermarkets, which took about ten minutes walk to get to, so that was definately a bonus, and the walk was a nice one.
Now contrary to me thinking the hotel was miles away from town, when we actually walked into town, with no bags, and more suitable clothing, it became a walk i looked forward to. It was nice to stroll to and from the town centre in the morning and evening (bit too hot in the middle of the day so we stayed round the pool.) took about 15 minutes and you barely notice it.
so overall, I loved the hotel, the maid seemed to come round daily, the place was clean, nicely out the way from the hustle and bustle of town at night, but no so far that its not easy to get to. great mix of people, families, young couples, small groups. no louts. I would definately stay there again....and have recommended the place to my friends as rhodes itself is a great place. for anyone going, the waterpark is a must..i spent a whole day in there, from opening til just before close. it was my best experience of a waterpark ever, and the setting on the cliffside is just perfect..
The only negatives, (which didnt really bother me too much), is that 1: the fridge didnt seem to work when we got there, and it was because the freezer was so iced up the cool air wasnt circulating. so if that happens, just turn your fridge off, let the ice soften and bash it all out, and voila, the fridge was nice and cold, and perfect for keeping water in throughout the week.
and 2: The hot water can be a bit sporadic, its fine for showers earlyish in morning....but in the evening i just resorted to washing in the bathroom sink...but its all part of the experience of trying new things so i rather enjoyed it. (i didnt climb in the sink, just filled it with soapy water and gave myself a body wash)....theres a drain on the bathroom floor anyway so it doesnt flood the place. (the rooms have a kettle so you can always heat water up if its needed)
and my final negative: was that i didnt book for two weeks as id have loved to stay there longer!
definately try this hotel out :D
Room Tip: I just asked for a higher room when i booked and got one with a great view out towards faliraki.all...
